Some Responses from Our Test Participants!

The test is being presented in six segments, and these responses represent the first four segments of the test. The six parts all together will be assembled to make a master test of 100 questions eventually (posting by May 28). Kudos to Flutterby for assistance with automation! (You'll see some remarks on that - if you are new, we initially made you add up the answers!) We've had over 7000 responses so far as of May 15.

Please remember this is not a scientific study and is simply an amusement to pass your time!

Here are some of the remarks we've received (names removed)...

Nice design. *Someone* was definitely in the sciences at one point or another, which makes the test even more fun to read (and yet probably contributes to people taking it too seriously...), and whoever did the layout and copy has style like a fine wine: fruity, yet sharp. All in all, the feel unclenches my brain.

I actually thought it was very accurate, except for the part about not liking to be wrinkled. I generally walk out of the house with wet hair and whatever clothes were conveniently located when I got up. But, I know if I'm ever lucky enough to get employed, I'll take a bit more time on my appearance.
At first I was skeptical, but since I came out Strong Femme with both sets of questions, I think you may have hit on something. The whole description doesn’t fit, but enough of it does to make me laugh (and think). In any event, it was lots of fun
Have only take 2 sections, one rated me classic Femme and the other Classic butch! but it is fun!! and that is the name of the game!!
OK. I'm glad to see you included a gardening question. Now how about a whistling question and a "what musical instrument do you play". How about "were you in the high school band?" or "were you a cheerleader ?" I only came in at IV so maybe you have had these questions.
tried it last week ... and tested "gentle butch"...this week androgyne...which is closer to accurate, I think anyway...it's fun

Test is fun - the new disclaimer is good. However needs something other neither half and half as choice some people think B/F is irrelevant - not half and half. Ki-ki women switch from one to another - NOT the same as finding it irrelevant. Some of us hate the word androgynous which implies you must be either like a man or like a woman or like both. The middle region is far more complex than you represent - or anyone does come to that (pretty fed up with representation of so called androg.)
Ah, you changed it! *grin* Well, I took it again today, and came out a Strong Femme, as was my original hunch. You may remember, I wrote you that I was surprised to score a 40 Androgynous on the last version you had up here. Interesting...
It has the problem of all such tests that the answers frequently don't cover anything I want to do. Or I want to respond with two or more answers. In general I feel that a preference system would be better (rank the answers in order of preference and allow "none of the above"). But since it's not a serious test I don't know if it's worth you going to the trouble of doing that (I would but I'm a programmer and enjoy that sort of pointless exercise [grin])...
seems cool so far, would like to see the complete, 100-question version...

Most of the questions seemed pretty straight forward, but the one on valentines gifts...didn't really like the options. They didn't seem very 'valentinish' if ya know what I mean. Maybe that's just showing a little more about me, huh? I'm kind of curious though about how the results are coming out. Everyone from [the posting board] that posted their result came out gentle butch. I realise this was just for fun, but did the questions lead everyone to that result? [Nope.. see the pie chart we made :)} Just a thought?
It felt right - although both androgynous and classic butch could have been me too. It was fun!
Amusing. For some of the questions, I would pick different options, depending on mood and who my lover was at that time.
I think it's fun. I get really annoyed when people perceive being femme as a lesser type of lesbian. I'm proud to be a femme.

It was fun. Had a bit of a question about "toys" in the gifts section. I chose not to answer with that simply because of the usual definition of toys. However, I define "toy" to be anything that's fun to play with - this includes fabrics, plants, computers, motorcycles, and anything else I like to play with. Perhaps a sort of defining ("we mean dolls and kid-type toys) thing would help? Also, what makes me attracted to another person needs and "all of the above" button. *grin* It's the whole being, the smell, shape, feel of the person. *shrug*

Although the questions often don't make much sense, I think it ended up classifying me pretty well.

I really liked it. I take it a bit seriously 'cz I have been unsure how to describe myself to others who ask. I am a male-to-female transsexual, pre-op and I am attracted to other women.
Hi, I found the test both accurate and amusing. I scored as androgynous and the description fit me well. I'm not a huge believer in sex roles, as I think they are learned, rather than biologically determined. I like to wear jeans, big Doc Marten boots, a chain wallet and shave my head one week, then wear a very light, femme dress with sandals, painted toenails, make-up and jewelry and dye the regrowth pale blonde the next week. It's about my ever-changing mood, rather than my identity most of the time. This sort of multiple sex role identity seems to confuse other people (though it's perfectly natural for me), so it is met with resistance (even though I live in "let it all hang out" [major gay Mecca]). As a result, I find myself thinking about sex roles more than I'd like to...I'll be referring people to this page, so perhaps they can get a clue about how much variety there is out there. Thanks for the test, it was funformitive!

very funny. butch/femme is always something I understand in theory but have trouble relating to my own life, so it amused me to get exactly 51 points last week when I tried the test before you automated the scoring. the part about who attracts me & who bores me was right on. how about including more questions that don't assume a significant other?

it was cool and fun...but there are some Qs that I cant really relate to the subject though....
So maybe I'm not so femme as I thought, or perhaps you really are pulling my leg. It was amusing, and at least as scientific as Sandra Bem's gender test. ;) Oh, and it's not my chromosomes that are ambiguous, just a gene or two.

Well, it came out "strong femme" which is probably the category I'd pick for myself. I wasn't quite sure which answer to put for some of the questions, so I went back and tried it with some of the other choices I'd been considering, and the result was still the same, which impressed me. One thing I found difficult was that the questions were very much oriented to behavior within relationships, which makes them hard to answer if your experience is limited.

Fun. I will enjoy seeing the 100 questions. My spouse and I both appear femme. I have long hair past my waist, she has long hair a bit down her back and wears dresses daily. Our money, btw, is joint, so it doesn't matter who writes the checks or uses the credit card, they are all under both our names. We each gave birth to one of our children and adopted the other's birth child. Hope this helps you with your questions! Thanks for this; it IS fun. :-)
It was a hoot, but call me pathetic I found it a little sad as well to realise how my strengths are also my weaknesses and why I have been trashed so badly two out of only three lesbian relationships. I know it was satirical and take total responsibility for my feelings. It really did amuse me and I intend to email a couple of friends telling them to look in on this page. I think the test is fun-- I always describe myself as being soft-butch even though I am much more femme in appearance. Goes to show looks can be deceiving, I guess. I tend to be more aggressive in verbal realms, and would say I've got a selfish streak. A good test though.

Great fun and more consistent than expected.
First of all, I want to come right out and say that I hope my biological maleness does not make you think I am the male equivalent of a "fag-hag". (From people that don't meet me in person, it is often assumed that I might be). That aside, the test is very interesting. I took the test because I have always been extremely interested in gender roles, and queer identities. The whole femme/butch dichotomy (or adamant refusal of the existence of that dichotomy) is an extremely interesting subject. Beyond interest in what questions you would ask, I was mildly curious how I would be classified in a primarily lesbian oriented questionnaire (multiple reasons for interest: gender role id of questionnaire, orientation role of questionnaire, how my own non-targeted group would be parsed by the questionnaire, as well as the vicariousness of it). The survey itself was very well written and enjoyable to take. How did you create your questions list, and what sources did you use for the classifications? Thanks for the cool site. I enjoyed visiting.

As one of the creators of the test, I have CONSISTENTLY tested with each test as an ANDROGYNE! [We’ll sign a name here since it’s one of us and yall HAVE been asking what WE are... (grin)... Jade. By the way, Reb’s consistently a CLASSIC FEMME.]
It was fun. Some of my friends are (as I did) having difficulty accessing it. [If you bookmark - https://members.tripod.com/~womens_voices - and go through that front page and the link there you’ll always find it. I move each version around to disable the old one (so it doesn’t throw the scoring off), so that’s probably why you couldn’t find it if you were using a “direct” link.]
I did have trouble with the answers because I haven't yet been in a lesbian relationship. I have been out for over a year, and still haven't met the grrl of my dreams. So most of my answers were just how I supposed I would react in the situations given. I hope that the upcoming sections of the test will relate to single grrls as well as those in relationships. I did like the test and it is becoming a nice sized thread on [a news group].
As much as I dislike labeling, I was still curious to enough to take the test and the automatic scoring made it that much easier... I thought it was interesting to see how accurately my answers seemed to *categorize* me (from my perception). Many people have said they think I'm butch, but I don't feel they really know *me* -- they are just reacting to what they see on the outside. Thanks for the giggles! ;)
It's delightful! The content is witty and the content and structure of the entire test application is extremely creative. I really enjoyed it -- and, although I know it's a *toy* -- the test results seemed pretty darned accurate to me. Thanks for the fun and the stuff to think about.

the test was very accurate. My girlfriend made me take it and had guessed my outcome way before I took the test. I also was really described by the other 2 butch descriptions so me and my girlfriend decided that I was a extremely gentle classic butch. Thanks this was fun

Much fun! I basically knew I was an androgyne already. I've NEVER fit in anywhere comfortably, and yet I have an ability to make others at ease, which gives me a comfortable place for my psyche.
All I can say is that I am newly out and I feel more butch than the description of androgyne. I hate picking out flowers! I do admit to a soft side, though. I WANT to score more butch but my answers were truthful as best I could! The test was fun!

I think the test is fun, and thank you for developing it. I tested as a Strong Femme ( on two different tests ) and the test says I am uncomfortable with Classic or Extreme butches. I have to disagree ~ my gf is a Classic Butch, and I wouldn't have her any other way!
Very hooty. My partner of 10 years scored Strong Femme and I Classic Butch. We both would have put ourselves a bit more to the Femme side, so it's good to have fun reminders of the magical, complex blend that makes women incredible.

It's ok...altho it says that gentle butch is uncomfortable around classic or extreme femme. Not true. I prefer to date them than to date butch like me or more butch than I am. So far it has been VERY accurate. For being classed as unscientific, it certainly tells it as it is! Many of us on our list serv are taking it and it has proved accurate in almost all cases.
