So, I'll start at the very beginning... my, to think that it's only been two weeks (and two days) ago! It seems like ages!!
On Thursday Aug 6 Chrissy, Josey (no panic, that's just her
nickname!) and I - 3 of the 5 Fanclub members in Bonn - met at
the station in Bonn at about 3 p.m. to catch the train to
Düsseldorf at 3.28 where we planned to meet Nicki, a Fanclub
member from Essen, and take the same train from there to Kevelaer. Our
train arrived in Düsseldorf at 4.12, on schedule, and Nicki's one was
to arrive at 4.09; we wanted to meet at the timetable for our
departing rail. When she didn't come we went onto the platform, we saw
our train come, we saw our train leave... Chrissy and Josey went to
search her while I looked after our luggage (loads of...): rucksacks,
sleeping bags, tents... because we were going to stay at a campsite in
Copenhagen.
At about 10-11 p.m. we started; Chrissy, Josey and I sat on the
backseats, Nicki and two other girls in the middle, and another one and Dieter
and Monika in the front; Monika and Dieter took turns in driving.
Finally I heard an announcement, asking her to
come to platform # 5, and found myself thinking, "poor one, how
embarrassing!".
Then a girl who looked like Nicki had described herself came up
the stairs, followed by Chrissy and Josey. Chrissy addressed her...
Her train had been to late, and just when she'd got off she had heard
the announcement. So we phoned Monika and Dieter to tell them they did
not have to pick us up yet, and caught the next train, one hour later.
We didn't get bored during that hour, of course!
So we didn't arrive in Kevelaer at 5.23 but at 6.23... phoned from the
station, and Monika came with the big 9-seat Ford Transit with which
we were going to drive to Copenhagen... At their house we got the
motifs of the "Official European Deep Blue Something Fanclub" ironed
on our white t-shirts which we had brought with us so that we could
all wear them the next evening, and the others who would also drive with
the bus dropped in: one of them had already been there when we arrived,
and else came two other FC members.
We listened to DBS all the time,
Chrissy had mixed two tapes with all songs from all the three
albums... It's strange but with DBS music running I can't sleep. Or
barely. At a rest stop near Hamburg we met the three girls from Cologne,
and two from Helmstedt, who drove all the five with another car.
After some coffees (but not for me) we drove on "in line". We arrived
at the ferry at about... what time was it... 4 a.m., roughly. I
remember the sky was all covered with clouds. And do you know this
empty feeling one gets when seeing that it's already dawning and then
thinking that one's barely had some sleep? When being on some island
at about half past 5 I thought "now we're on the same island as our
boys! Incredible..." And the thought that we had to drive another few
hours till arriving at the campsite suddenly put me to sleep.
Fortunately when I woke up short before Copenhagen, the sun was
shining. Nevertheless I took another little nap.
Arriving on the campsite at half past 8, we built up the tents and
then Josey and I went to the washing house to "renew" ourselves. I
had lost any sense of time, suddenly the thought came to my mind that
all the peopz we saw were only just getting up!
Then we went to look for a bakery with breakfast and had to walk about
a mile for that. Monika, Dieter and the others had already gone there,
and Chrissy and Nicki preferred to stay on the campsite and have some
dry crackers (Chrissy wasn't able to eat much anyway during the whole
few days). On our way we met the others who told us that there was
some bakery. Thank heavens... When we were back I only wanted to lay
down a bit - and fell asleep. Practical, actually, because then I did
not have to get bored during the whole time, waiting.
