But there was someone sitting on one of the barstools at the bar:
dark brown curly hair, a little beard, a cap
on, and a disarming smile... Stormy!! He said hi to each, but he'd only
been waiting for us to appear, and so he left soon after.
Some time Monika said "oh, there was Todd", she'd seen him rush to the
toilet [1]. Of course I had seen nothing but I'm used to missing the
best things! A few minutes later the same, including me missing it
again.
We had to wait three hours - the concert was gonna begin at 10 p.m. -
so we took some photos of the empty stage with the instruments on it,
of the room, sat there at the bar... Actually we were only allowed to
stay there during that time because we were fanclub. What an honor!
Then, an hour or so later, Chrissy suddenly said "there was Todd!" -
but with a look on her face as if she'd just said "I'm pretty sure
it's strawberries with cream for dessert!", assumed that she'd die for
strawberries with cream (that association came to my mind almost
immediately after)! So at first I did not believe her but she insisted
on it, still with that dreamy, very strange look on her face. Totally odd...
When other peopz came we sat down in front of the stage, afraid that
some others might go there. But those lazy persons only wanted to sit
down somewhere so they stayed near the barstools in the back! We were
about the only ones to stand immediately in front of the stage. (By
the way: before, one guy had addressed me: "Are you English?" - "No,
but I can speak English." - "Are you a fan?" - With my fanclub t-shirt
on he asked me that!
They started with "Daybreak And A Candle End". Afterwards they fooled
around a bit, and Toby looked at us fanclub peopz and said "I like
those t-shirts!" (I stood exactly as I had wanted to - a bit left so I
had a good view on both Pipes.) And Todd said something about "my
brother's got a lady over there", pointing in the direction of the
barstools [7]. Really?? (Well, however, during the gig Toby looked
into that direction a few times.)
So I pointed on it and said "yes - a real fan!" - "Could you sing some
tones of "Breakfast At Tiffany's" so that I remember what it sounds
like?" So I did - after having assured that he'd really asked that.
Funny one!)
At 20 past 10 the boys appeared. Someone had told me first that they
were coming from behind us so I had kept turning around, but then
someone had said they were not coming from that direction but from
somewhere behind the stage, climbing up somewhere. So of course they
did come from behind us!
Then they played some more songs - at a good volume, after the third
song we began to feel like half-deaf! -, and some time Todd
pointed on Clay saying "this is Clay Bergus - he's a famous German
soap opera star" - because Monika had told him that he looked like
someone out of a series (it's called "Good Times, Bad Times"). Yet he
really does, that's our common opinion.
When they played "Hell In Itself" as #7, I started to cry! I had
thought maybe I would - in case you've read on Audrey's Page what the song is
about, you'll know why! By chance they played three of Josey's favorite songs, "Hell"
as mentioned, "Josey", and "Dr Crippen"; but only one of my favorites.
But to that later, that one was the encore. And they played "11th"!
Though not all of the CD version of it, John's drum solo turned into another song,
this special one called "Deep Blue Something"!
I did not properly realize it, until Toby suddenly began to sing "I
remember ...(not understood) and pictures"... I was all captivated,
not able to move. The lyrics included about "you always leave ... one
cannot rely on you" or so, I cannot remember... but all heartrending!
And some time he repeated, over and over again, "you're not alone,
you're not alone, ...", the melody of that only changing between two
tones next to each other (major). That were about the loudest parts of the
concert, some time I found I had my fists clenched!
