ALL about Copenhagen - Part 4

Dieter had a hat with him, a kind of cowboy hat. He had it signed by the boys. When I discovered the shape of Texas drawn on it I immediately wanted one too. So I asked Dieter from whom he'd got that one. He said, from Toby. So I went to Toby and asked him, but he said it was from Todd. So I went to Todd.
He was so kind and drew one, and also with a star on it, as on Dieter's hat. I asked him why he put the star just there, and he said that was where he was born. It was about the Houston or Austin area so I guessed "Austin?" first, and after he shook his head, obviously amused that I seemed to know a bit about Texas, I asked on, "Houston?" - "That's right!" Interesting. He then explained something with the distances from one place to another, and so I know now that it's 3 1/2 hours driving from Huntsville to Dallas! Telling that, he added next to the Texas map a DAMN STRAIGHT.

By chance I also heard Todd being asked if he'd maybe work as an English teacher again after his musical career. He said probably not. Interesting as well.

And I asked Todd what "The Eleventh" was about. He was just showing a card trick to Dieter so he pretended to be occupied by that while obviously thinking about a reply. Then he said vaguely "it's about people who talk too much". What a nondescript answer! He couldn't expect me to believe that, so I put back: "- not about people who ask too much?" I guess he got exactly what I meant but he merely said, smiling, "no", as if he did not have any idea of what I was talking about. Well... Ok.
Later, after having a photo taken with me and both Pipes on it I remembered that I had still not the slightest idea who "Sella" was (on the other names I had found things quite easily at Altavista - but just type in "Sella", and you'll find you get so many matches you don't know where to start!!), so I simply asked Todd... He said it was a water spirit from a poem. I was totally satisfied by that but he said, while being occupied with another card trick, that he hadn't finished yet. So, after having mulled over what this author's name was, he also told me that. What a really kind and nice guy!

Some time later I saw that Todd was showing another card trick to Dieter, and because I was interested in that, I went to them and sat down next to Todd. He was just collecting the cards from the table, then swept something off it with his hand, and told me, as if I had asked for that, "That's sugar!" I was like: "?? - Oh, aha!"
A funny moment, I then thought - such a banal but meaningful one, to keep in mind for the rest of your life! Wasn't it a kind of symbol for this whole evening?? That was all just sugar! "Sugar"!!

Then Josey came and asked him if this hand sign he sometimes shows at the "Home" vid (i.e. when after the backstage scenes they finally leave the room he holds up his fist with little finger and index finger up) was from KISS.
At first he asked "which video?", and whilst we tried to explain which one, the terrible thought came to our minds that Stormy might have made and sold it without telling the boys because he thought they would not have appreciated it... But just when we were about to think that now we might have quite a big problem, it came out that Todd had only thought somehow that it was sold publicly and get-at-able in all shops. Phew! Finally then he smiled all pleased and said "Yeah! That's my favorite band!" - As if we'd not known that from various interviews!
And I asked him what he thought of Morrissey. First he asked back if I meant Morrissey with The Smiths or Morrissey alone. I said Morrissey alone, and he asked me "do you like him?" I hesitated, "well... actually I don't know too much of him... -- What's your favorite song of his?" - "'The Last Of The Famous International Playboys'", and that scene from the "Home"-Tour vid came to my mind immediately, where he sings "Dear hero imprisoned", the beginning line from that song, and Chrissy sang it immediately...
Next thing she asked was which was his favorite song by The Smiths, and he replied, "'What Difference Does It Make'", because it reminded him of a Texan folk song sounding about the same. At all, he seemed a bit surprised and also pleased that we asked him about that. Also with Chrissy's next question, if he knew the song "Stop Me If You Think That You've Heard This One Before". He said, oh yes, he'd like that one very much as well.

But then suddenly Monika said our taxi had arrived, and we all gotta go now. "Come on, tear yourselves away from them!"
So they waved us goodbye... Down in the Café room we met John, he had changed between there and the upstairs room all the time, and by chance I had heard someone ask Clay where John had gone, and Clay joked around, "we killed him". What I found quite surprisingly about myself was when I saw John I just smiled at him happily and said "Chow!"; he answered "chow!" as well.

And what I'd sooo badly have liked to see, was what Chrissy told us, namely she had asked Toby "what's your second name?"; Toby looked quite confused at first, and then answered "Pipes" in a way that it sounded like "What?? You don't know that??", and while Chrissy was searching around for what she was actually trying to say, he realized it was what was his middle name, and said "Douglas - but I don't like that name!" - "wrinkling his nose in such a sweet way!" she said.

- How long we were there? About one hour...

So, the rest is probably quite uninteresting. We took some taxis and fell onto / into our sleeping bags at about 2 a.m. The next morning we already got up at 7, and were in quite a hurry because it's such a long way back, and we wanted to make it well. So, I also had some naps while driving, and so I wasn't that whacked at last, at least. In Kevelaer we were "thrown off" directly at the station, with Nicki again, and we Bonners arrived at home at quarter to 12 p.m. each. Phew.
Wonderful, really. I told my mother about it for one whole hour - but that's probably what it has taken you to read all this...
