Carmen decides to try out for the cheerleading squad, as Brooke tries to deal with the pressures of being popular. Sam tries to get into Brooke's good graces, as Brooke wrestles with her self and the decision of wheather or not Carmen should make the squad.Josh tries out for the school musical. Josh makes the musical but Carmen is left off of the Cheerleading team.

Brooke and Sam are forced to sit down to a family diner when Sam's cheerleading expose hits the halls of Kennedy high. Josh must choose between starring in the school musical or playing in the homecomming game. Things between Sam and Brooke get worse when both learn that their parents haven't been telling each then the truth. Everyone is stressed over the Bio mid term, but Nicole, Mary and Poppy decided the best way to get an A is to steal the test. Sam over hears them talking about it, and when they all recieve A's decides to run the story. She enlists Harrison's help to tape a converstation between Josh and Sugar during a round of golf. Despite getting the info Harrison decides not to rat Sugar out, but Sam breaks into his locker and steals the taped confession. Sam runs into Brooke in the bathroom and Brooke confesses that she cheated on the test as well, and then goes on to explain why. They realize that they have a lot in common and Sam agrees not to run the story. When Sam tries to stop it she learns she's too late. The next day everyone is mad at Sam and Harrison and Josh almost come to blows. Sam tells Brooke she's sorry but Brooke doesn't buy it. Sam and Brooke accidently start a food fight that engulfs the entire cafeteria. Sam and Brooke learn their parents are moving in together. Nicole is told she won't be able to participate in the home comming race.

Nicole chooses Carmen, Poppy, Mary and Brooke as nominees for home comming queen. Sam and Brooke move in together and fight over the bathroom sink. Sam causes further family prombles when she announces she'll be helping Carmen and not Brooke. Everyone tries to convince the chess club to vote for them. A bad picture of Brooke that Sam brought to school gets posted up causeing Brooke to rethink her quest to become queen. Everyone, including Sam's mom thinks Sam was behind the picture. Mary Cherry and her mom lauch a campaign that makes Brooke and Nicole rethink their low key campaign. Carmen convinces Brooke to stay in the race. Brooke wins, and it is revealed that Mary was behind the photo. Sam and Brooke call a truce and Brooke lends Sam her crown.

Jane sits down with Brooke and Sam to talk about the birds and bees when she finds a condom. Brooke and Sam make a wager. Brooke bets that Sam can't land a boyfriend by the end of the week and and Sam bets that Brooke can't prove that her relationship has deeper meaning than appearence value. Sam sets her sights on Leo. Lily enlist Harrison's help to pass out condoms to the students a kennedy high. After being sent to detention they contemplate haveing sex with each other. Brooke invites Josh to a family dinner, and then prepares him for the evening. Sam fakes an injury so Leo will come home with her. Sugar meets a girl online and agrees to meet her at a hotel resturant. At the same hotel Harrison rents a room and gets ready for Lily's arrival. Sam gets leo to stay for dinner and Mike and Jane show concern about the age difference. Carmen turns out to be Sugar's on line girl but bails. Josh and Brooke decide that they should have sex. Leo tells Sam that they can't date. Brooke breaks up with Josh when she doesn't feel the "connection" with Josh. Lily tells Harrison that she isn't attracted to him and can't have sex with him. Carmen tells Sugar she was the girl and they agree to stay on line friends.

Brooke worries that she may be pregant. Mary and Nicole try to get Gweneth Paltrow, nominated for Principal for a Day, as Sam and Lily do the same for Harrison's mom when they learn that she's gay. Harrison has a hard time dealing with the fact that his friends know that his mother is gay. Sam goes with Brooke to a clinic.

It's christmas time and Sam and Brooke are forced to combined their christmas parties and bring their frineds together. Sam and the gang invite April, May, Freddy and Emory to the christmas party. Carmen sprains her ankel which means she won't be able to try out for 2nd semester cheerleaders. Nicole turns her scrouge attitude toward the holidays and is swept into the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carole. Nicole get's Ms Glass fired from her cosmetic job, she steals money from the poor ans she's rude to everyone. She's visited by the ghost of christmas past (Ms Glass) who shows Nicole as a child and her loving grandmother, unloving mother and the abuse she suffered as a child by other kids. She also shows wwhen Nicole became the person she is today. She is then visited by the ghost of christmas present (mary) who brings her to Brooke's house. Finally she is visited by the ghost of christmas yet to come, where Nicole learns Carmen has died as a result of ganggreen, and that she her self will die. When Nicole wakes up she's a new women. SHe returns the money and shows up at the dinner with gifts in hand for everyone. She then tells carmen that she'll be on the squad. later they all go out singing xmas caroles and show up at the Glass's where Nicole give Ms Glass the cat she was trying to buy for her sister.

Tension at home builds as josh is forced to tell his father that he is staring in the school muciscal. Sam and brooke are chosen to produce a segment that will be seen by a national audience on popularity. They choose Josh as their subject. carmen deals with being a cheerleader and her new admirer April. The cheerleaders decied to go get their drivers licence. Things get bad for Josh when he tells his dad that he's going to the musical instead of a football function. carmen runs over April during the drivers test. Josh stars in the play and has a dramatic confrontation with his father outside. Brooke and Sam agree that they will not pass on the tape because they'd rather be Josh's friend.
