No matter if a small parcel is being shipped, or huge crates, no matter if urgent contracts, vital spare parts or personal belongings - there is always someone waiting for the cargo to arrive.

To be successful in business, forwarders and logistic providers have to be aware of the whereabout of their shipments at any given time and be able to inform the customer fast in case of any unexpected delays.

For the shipper it's important to deliver his shipments on time to fulfill his contractual obligations.

And often it's vital for the consignee to receive a shipment on time - spare parts for a malfunctioning machine shutting down a production line, important documents, consumer goods for seasonal business - the list is endless.

Instead of waiting for the information to be provided by the airline / the forwarding agent, or only recognizing a shipment is late when it's not arrived at the destination at the expected time, you can check the status of your shipment online for many airlines.

All you need is the Airwaybill-Number of your shipment - just search for the appropriate airlines cargo tracking site, enter your Airwaybill-Number and start tracking. If you don't know the airline name, you can search by Airline- / Airwaybill-Prefix (that's a 3-number code for each airline, and the first 3 digits of your Master Airwaybill Number). If you don't know the airline Name, you can find the airline tracking sites sorted by prefix here.

In international business, you may also need information about world time zones, currency conversion rates, or conversion from or to the metric system for weights or dimensions.

Many courier / parcel services also offer online tracking, and ocean carriers offer container tracking by container number or by bill of lading number. You may need to register and log in for some carriers to be able to use the cargo tracking service.
