ChianaGray started things off in January 2003 with the initial concept, and I finished it May 9th 2005. John Crichton and Chiana find themselves stranded together in a place and time they don't know, with no clue how they got there and very little of their memories intact. Yes you can be assured there are connections to the Farscape stories and concepts lurking among the ruins. The "viewer" will discover them as the story unfolds.
The primary reason for this project was to write something with the great characters of John and Chiana that was new and different. It is deliberately unlike a 'shippy fic or a PK action epic, of which there are plenty of enjoyable examples out there. Out of deference to the more progressive elements in Farscape, we have also deliberately taken advantage of the written form and the freedoms to do things not possible in the set contexts of Farscape. Some things in this project would be impossible to do on film anyway. As mentioned it does have connections to the actual series, but we didn't want to tread directly on its ground here.
This project trailblazed into Uncharted Territory in a few respects. Or is that, blazed into Tormented Space? One obvious component is John and Chiana's affair. This story finds them out of their context in Farscape with no useful knowledge of their past relationship, so their relationship takes on different contexts. I apologize to any John and Aeryn 'shippers who object to a different 'ship for John. But new and different is kind of the point here. At least it's someone on Aeryn's "if it had to be someone else" list. Possibly the only person in fact. Although if Aeryn could be there, she'd tear up that list I'd bet. Those from the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Crichton won't be tickled, not that Farscape is any too gentle with him anyway! They can take some heart, I think, in knowing John and Chiana always cared about one another in their (far from perfect) fashions and continue to do so here.
Content wise it roams all over the map. It has themes such as love, loyalty, friendship, bravery, humor, sex and hope as well as nastiness like insanity, cruelty, violence, neglect, and self-destructive themes. There is innocent and silly humor, more literary or verbal humor, dreadfully dire puns, wit, stupidity, social satire and black humor. It only exists in a NC-17 rated version with adult themes. At this time I'm not convinced a general audience version can be done and still be worth the trouble for you and me.
Destination Unclear, true to the title, kept steering us to the unexpected. Enjoy the ride and drop me a line if you'd like to share any thoughts or have any questions. We're a nice bunch, us authors, it's just that Twisted Muse of mine that's wicked.
And yes, if while you're reading you have the impulse to tell me, I know that Larran Must Die.
ChianaGray ~ The initial inspiration and much of the scenes to page 10. She started it. The rest of us messed it up heh heh
Me, chiana_pip ~ some weird stuff from 1-10, most everything after.
CheekyChi ~ a few emotional John/Chiana bio-dome scenes.
pipsthief ~ some of Chiana's reflective scenes in the bio-dome.
Farscape and all related entities are property of The Jim Henson Company. None of the authors make any claims to the contrary. We can't help that some characters got out and misbehaved heh heh
