Yannick's
departure (02/05/99)
|
Yannick
is gone! He left the Gateway of India (Bombay) on Sunday
02 May 1999.
At
12:00 am, a Maharashtrian lady dressed in a nine-yard sari,
performed an aarti, to wish Yannick a safe and fruitful
journey. Coconuts were broken in front of his motorcycle,
pedas distributed and roses were presented to Yannick Ollivier
by the street children, who will be the beneficiaries of
any money raised by this trip.
|
Mobbed by Indian
well wishers and friends, Ollivier was overwhelmed at all
the love, support and encouragement showered on him by the
public, some of whom were complete strangers.
When he finally left on his
bike from the Gateway of India, with around ten bikers on
their bikes riding behind him through the streets of Mumbai,
loud cheers of support rent the air from the street children
and other by-standers.

A new star is born... You could
see articles and pictures of Yannick on all the indian newspapers!
Delhi
(07/05/99)

Yannick has arrived
in Delhi on Friday 07 May 1999. He has spent
the week-end overthere... But it seems that it was not so
relaxing!
|
"Hello my friends, I am in New Delhi today. The journey
has been quite pleasant so far. The bike runs perfectly and Im getting
used to the 5 hour daily drive. In fact, everything was perfect
till this morning when my wallet was stolen with my Indian roupies,
my driving licence and my credit card inside.I spent the all day
giving calls and making reports to the police in order to limit
the damages. Tonight, I'll be on the Indian national TV for the
third time since my departure. Indeed, the media are very interested
into my adventure but unfortunatly no sponsor has come forward so
far to help the children of PACT. Let's not lose hope... Tomorrow,
I'll be hitting the road again and by thursday I should enter the
Pakistanese territory. Ciao. Yannick. "
Off course, a visit
of the Taj Mahal (Agra) was a must... |
|
Back on the road on Tuesday
11 May 1999 with his daily driving rythm :
- morning : wake up at 5h00, departure at 5h30, driving untill 11h00 with a stop
every hours (the Bullet has to cool down, and it is the occasion to take a Chai and chat
with the truck drivers in a local dabbha)
- afternoon : shower and "siesta"...
- evening : motorcycle check-up and "touristic" ballad in the
surroundings...

After the visit
of the magnificent Golden Temple, Yannick
was ready to cross the "wagha border"... a bit sad
to leave a country where he spent 2 years of his life... |
