Does anyone in the administration care?
An open question to The President, all at Capitol Hill, and the Military leaders at
The Pentagon and CENTCOM........to THEIR spouses, THEIR children, THEIR families, and THEIR friends.....
Has ANYONE in power over or at the military ever heard of MASLOW'S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS??
(Clue...... it is in human growth and development 101 !!)
Never heard of it?..let me enlighten you.......
Abraham Maslow developed a theory of personality that has influenced a number of different fields....one of
which is that it is reflected in EVERY survival guide that I have ever seen..
Let us examine those needs.....put simply Maslow developed a "pyramid" of needs, and one cannot
go onto the next upward level until all needs in the previous level have been met......let us look at the levels.....this
is a little lengthy, but well worth the read......starting at the "bottom level".....or pyramid base line..
- Physiological Needs
- These are biological needs. They consist of needs for oxygen, food, water, and a relatively constant body
temperature. They are the strongest needs because if a person were deprived of all needs, the physiological ones would come
first in the person's search for satisfaction.
- Safety Needs
- When all physiological needs are satisfied and are no longer controlling thoughts and behaviors, the needs
for security can become active. Adults have little awareness of their security needs except in times of emergency or periods
of disorganization in the social structure (such as widespread rioting). Children often display the signs of insecurity and
the need to be safe.
- Needs of Love, Affection and Belongingness
- When the needs for safety and for physiological well-being are satisfied, the next class of needs for love,
affection and belongingness can emerge. Maslow states that people seek to overcome feelings of loneliness and alienation.
This involves both giving and receiving love, affection and the sense of belonging.
- Needs for Esteem
- When the first three classes of needs are satisfied, the needs for esteem can become dominant. These involve
needs for both self-esteem and for the esteem a person gets from others. Humans have a need for a stable, firmly based, high
level of self-respect, and respect from others. When these needs are satisfied, the person feels self-confident and valuable
as a person in the world. When these needs are frustrated, the person feels inferior, weak, helpless and worthless.
- Needs for Self-Actualization
- When all of the foregoing needs are satisfied, then and only then are the needs for self-actualization activated.
Maslow describes self-actualization as a person's need to be and do that which the person was "born to do." "A musician must
make music, an artist must paint, and a poet must write." These needs make themselves felt in signs of restlessness. The person
feels on edge, tense, lacking something, in short, restless. If a person is hungry, unsafe, not loved or accepted, or lacking
self-esteem, it is very easy to know what the person is restless about. It is not always clear what a person wants when there
is a need for self-actualization.
Maslow believes that the only reason that people would not move well in direction of self-actualization
is because of hindrances placed in their way by society........now for the main question that affects the troops and their
welfare.....
If the military are not fulfilling the basic needs of the troops....insufficient water (sometimes
only ONE bottle of good drinking water per day in temperatures of 130 degrees), ice only twice per day, some only receiving
one hot meal a day, weeks without fresh fruit and vegetables..no air conditioning in the quarters....then the troops are not
yet meeting the requirements of the first level of the pyramid......now tell me where the troops SHOULD be on the pyramid?......the
answer is on the top level....the self actualization one........only on that level can they be expected to achieve all that
is asked of them......read the paragraph(s) again and all will be clear.....
Now just WHEN are the administration and military leaders going
to actually meet those needs.....why not ask them?...write to your elected officials and ASK !!...copy/paste this into an email to them, just add a small line at the top......maybe "explanation please!".....
Only this past week has Mr. Rumsfeld declared on "The Hill" the detailed repatriation
of the 3rd ID..for those who easily forget, the 3rd ID are the troops who did the majority of front line engagements, and
are even now in one of the more serious risk locations......four short days later and they were told that they were not leaving....no
new timescale was given, and none has been forthcoming.....every one of the troops NEEDS to know when they will be coming
home, not just the 3rd ID.....they NEED that information to keep on going in the depressing and hostile sandpit they find
themselves in....
Ask ANY of the troops anywhere in Iraq how morale is at present..they are
likely to answer "what morale?".....and "we" expect these people to just carry on regardless.....if they were animals the
"owners" would be in court by now for maltreatment....our troops are being treated worse than animals..and certainly a whole
lot worse than the people they just liberated, and who are still in some areas taking "pot shots" and killing and maiming
the troops.......we are putting HUGE humanitarian efforts into the Iraqi people, yet less than
the bare minimum into the welfare of the troops...
I have fully supported the troops throughout all of the war (and yes, it is still ongoing).......after
all they were/are carrying out orders.....the next time there will be no troops....how many do you think are likely to re-enlist
when they have been treated worse than third class citizens for months......and more months to come....
Do YOU care for the men and women who are
following orders and trying to do their job??........if the answer to that question is yes, then please take some action.....every
little helps, together we can make the government accountable, if not now, certainly in the next election.....and it is time
even they realized that...!!!......but that is months away, meanwhile we hear daily of troops who have been hospitalized as
a direct result of the poor welfare, and at least one who has died of heat exhaustion, not to mention
the numerous suicides..something is seriously wrong here folks......we need action NOW !!
Please help if you can........those who know me personally will know I am not political in
even the remotest sense...but I am VERY pro-troops........and as a nation
we should support them.....please feel free to forward this as an email (by copy/pasting) to anyone that you know shares the
feeling that "We support the troops"
