Always make a BACKUP!!!!!

All you need to do is make a folder in windows called "backup" copy the regedit files into there, so if it goes a bit pear shaped then you have the original setup.
Thanks to Sanj for pointing out I omitted this info.

Desktop Icon Redraw (Windows 9x and NT)If you desktop icons are redrawing too frequently, it could be because the icon cache is full. Try increasing the size by changing this setting.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new string value, or modify the existing value, called "Max Cached Icons" and set it to "8192". This will increase the icon cache to 8MB (8192kb).

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Registry Settings:
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
Value Name: Max Cached Icons
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Data: 8192

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of the registry can be solved. Use the information provided at your own risk.
