The Angels Of Columbine

The Angels of Columbine by Susan Cooper Prochoroff (ULeaveMeWeak)

The world, in confusion, awaited an answer, why they left us one dark April day.
Then God sent a message and told us he needed young angels to show a new way...
All people throughout every country stood speechless and asked for a sign from above
Why earth's precious children were taken from us -- so young, so cherished, so loved.

God said there were two, also young, also fair
Who could not understand why the world didn't care.
They were children of sadness - and were cloaked in despair.
Into darkness they sank, feeling life was unfair.

So much of our lives is distracted and rushed, that we may not take time every day
To honor our children and live up to our duty to love them and show them the way.
Let each parent remember the day they were born, and what we envisioned for each,
Every day we must work at the lessons they need their parents to show and to teach.

Set examples, set curfews, set limits, set rules.
Be attentive and listen, and use love as your tools.
All the world will remember these innocent lives as examples of what to preserve.
Teach integrity, kindness, empathy, ethics, how to trust, and how to behave.

God knew these children would make us remember how parents must teach right from wrong,
So he chose these yearlings to pave a new path, now we must understand and be strong.
For each child will live on in the hearts of us all, God's lessons can never be wrong.
May their legacy teach us to nurture, to listen, to watch closely and guide them along.

If each parent stops every morning they're tempted to leave home in a hurried way,
Turn around and go back and hug your child warmly, and ask if he needs you today.
Find out if he's worried or scared or rejected, and let him know you'll help him through.
For you may be surprised if you take time to ask, that what he has needed is you.

Our Columbine angels will live on, up above,
Guide your children with patience, understanding and love.
Their legacy will be that each night before rest
We talk with our children, with whom we've been blessed.

Let their light from above go forth on this day, to tell every parent that every day
Is a learning experience for our children at bay - That they need us to teach them each step of the way.
That life can be beautiful & friends can be found, That they should live life with both feet on the ground ,
That anger breeds chaos, that life can be fair, that there is no problem they cannot repair
With the help & the love of their parents and friends, Their futures can offer them dreams without end.

Bless our Columbine angels, their faces will stay in our hearts and our minds, let us pray that some day
Their legacy become our motto, our creed - That parents give children the attention they need.
Let every parent from this day on, make a pledge to these children who watch from beyond
That they will take time to nurture and care, to motivate, inspire, and always beware
Of the signs that are warnings that one who is near, is leaning towards darkness & pain & despair.

Let the lives that were lost be a lesson to all
That we parents must guide them so they do not fall........
