Congas

Conga Drums      Congas are a welcome drum at almost any circle. Those strong warm open tones can often be heard in a far distance if the drum is tuned for optimum performance.
My congas are built of 3/8"  3-ply pine stave Construction. These shells are not turned on a lathe. They are planed down by hand, rounded off with a disc sander, fine sanded and then wrapped with 2 layers of 6 oz. fiberglass and resin and then reinforced with 3 more layers on the ends of the drum. The mid-section and bottom of the drum are wrapped with resin impregnated rope. I custom make all the hardware for these drums. Because of my original design there is no need to drill any holes in these drums to attach this hardware. Actually the hardware itself strengthens the drum. Drilling a hole in a drum is not the best thing to do for its accoustics. If taken care of, these drums will last a lifetime. They are light in weight and yet are very strong and the wood will never split because of the fiberglass coating.
I do use other woods to make my drums, such as oak and ash. Please feel free to inquire about them.

CGR       The Requinto is a very high-end, lead-style drum. This drum has high hollow, bottle sounding open tones and cracking slaps. The Requinto and the Quinto together are often used as accent instruments in Rock and Top 40 Music.     measurements are :   10" x 30"

CGQ       The Quinto is the standard lead-style drum. This drum has nice high open tones, great slaps and pops. If I only had two congas to choose from I would play the Quinto and the Tumba. The lead and the base.     measurements are :  11" x 30"

CGC       The Conga is the middle drum. Traditionally it is the conga and the tumba that are played. The conga is a versatile drum. This drum can be tuned many ways. It can be tuned high to sound like the quinto or tuned low to sound like the tumba. This drum has nice mid-range open tones and nice slaps.    measurements are :  11 3/4" x 30"

CGT       The Tumbadora is the low drum. This drum has beautiful mellow open tones, which give this drum great base-beat grounding properties for any band or drum circle. That is why they call the tumba, " Mama " of the congas.   measurements are:  12 1/2" x 30"
