MBITA
Mbita is situated on the edge of Lake Victoria about 600km from Nairobi, Kenya.
For many years this area has been sustained by the industry of fishing mainly Tilapia and Nile Perch (Barramundi).
The language that is now spoken here is Luo but was originally Suba.
There are many islands around this place such as Mfangano and Rusinga the latter is now attached to Mbita by a causeway.
AGRICULTURE
The people of this region have been dependant for many years on the fishing industry and transport vegetables from other
areas of Kenya.
Although the soil here is very fertile the people are limited from growing crops because of the unpredictable rainfall
and so many people fear to plant because of lack of irrigation.
Many thousands of people are dying here from HIV/AIDS which is recorded as around 41% and increasing and other diseases
that could be prevented by eradicating poverty.
