You decide to visit the Library.  As you enter you notice a large man sitting at a desk, wearing odd clothes and reading a book written in a strange language.  He wears oversized glasses and an intense frown.  He is an interesting man who seems very intent in his reading.   You start to slip by him, hoping to find a book of interest.

   "Hold it," the man starts, "may I see your register, please?"  Obviously this man is sharp and well aware of his surroundings, even when reading.  You admire this quality in him, but are unsure of what a 'register' might be.  Glancing up from his reading he immediately realizes that you aren't from the area and quickly stands up.  "Excuse me!" He smiles, "I didn't realize we had a visitor.  How very pleasant!"  Without introduction he takes your hand and leads you to a corner in the back of the Library.   He points to a shelf.  On it are several books, the first you have seen that are written in English.  "These should be a help," he says quickly.   "If you'll excuse me, I must get back to work."  You don't have the chance to say thank you or even smile before he runs off.  You shrug and turn back to the books.
