George Martin Zellhoefer-Klotz-[11] 15,16,17
- Born: 9 Sep 1858, Sullivan Twp, Jefferson, Wisconsin, USA 16
- Died: 13 Jan 1944, Madison, Dane, Wisconsin, USA at age 85
- Buried: 1944, Honey Creek Twp, Sauk, Wisconsin, USA
General Notes:
14 Jun 1929, when George & sister Sophie would have been 68 years of age, there was a Zellhoefer/Klotz family reunion in Vilas Park, Madison WI.
All the twin's parents, natural & adoptive, including their stepmother Elenora Zellhoefer, were deceased by 1915. Apparently the twins did not know of their natural parents and adoption until perhaps upon the death of Melchoir. Even George's wife Verena Luetscher was deceased in 1920, but it does appear that the Luetscher's and/or Rev Peter Massaguer may have been instrumental in the adoption back in 1862.
One wonders if the reunion included the Twins natural brother & sister, and their half-sisters and step-sisters of Elenora.
How that reunion might have come about is a mystery to be explored.
Research Notes:
On the 1860 census where Frederick was discovered, he/"it" was listed as Female. Until we learn more, all we know is that either this was Fredrika or a Male. Going with Male for now, becaue JMZ had brother named Fredrick. That's hardly conclusive!
Noted events:
• Adoption: by Melchoir & Katherine Klotz, 1865, , Jefferson, Wisconsin, USA. from blood parents John Konrad/Michael Zellheoefer and wife "Anna". Family lore holds this adoption date as about 1862, but RonKZ believes it makes much more sense that the adoption of George and twin Sophia would have occurred after the father's death in 1865, probably because their stepmother may have been quite unable (or unwilling) to support the 4 children of JMZ/Anna along with her own 4 blood-daughters.
No formal adoptive record has been found in either Jefferson or Sauk Counties.
