Short summary: Dawson regrets his decision to start up again with Jen after he sees Pacey and Joey together. But are things as they seem or is it all an act? Pacey tries to help Joey and Dawson find their way back to each other.

NEXT DAY AT CAPESIDE HIGH: JEN WALKS UP TO DAWSON AT HIS LOCKER.

JEN: (hugs Dawson and gives him a kiss) Hey stranger. I sort of thought that after last night we would have walked to school together.

DAWSON: (uncomfortable) What?…Oh sorry Jen…I came in early.

JEN IS HUGGING ON DAWSON MAKING IT OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE A COUPLE. PACEY WALKS DOWN HALL AND SEES THEM. PACEY HEADS OFF TO LOOK FOR JOEY.

CUT TO JOEY AT WATER FOUNTAIN. PACEY WALKS UP BEHIND HER.

PACEY: Jo, I need to talk to you.

JOEY: Pacey…I thought we agreed last night that it would probably be best if Dawson didn’t see us together for awhile.

PACEY: I know…but I didn’t want anyone else to tell you.

JOEY: Tell me what?

PACEY: That Jen and Dawson are back together.

JOEY: (stunned and hurt) Are you sure?

PACEY: Yeah Jo…I’m sorry.

JOEY: Well that confirms it. My life is a walking, talking nightmare. I can avoid Dawson, but Jen and I have a class together.

PACEY: OK, was that a complete cave-in or what?

JOEY: What are you talking about Pacey?

PACEY: Jo…if you do the disappearing act every time Dawson is around…you’ll never get him back.

JOEY: Never get him back? Pacey that’s pretty much a given…don’t you think?

PACEY: No, I don’t Jo. I told you. Dawson doesn’t love Jen. He’s using her. Our friend Dawson wants to be with you.

JOEY: Whatever…it’s all kind of a non-issue now.

PACEY: It doesn’t have to be. I want to help you Jo.

JOEY: How?…Do you have magic powers I’m not aware of?

PACEY: OK….back to reality land Jo. What’s the one think Dawson has no control over?

JOEY: I don’t know. Is there a point to this Pacey?

PACEY: His emotions, his heart…Dawson can rule his analytical head but his heart belongs to you.

JOEY: I’m pretty sure I’m going to regret this, but what do you have in mind Pacey?

PACEY: I say we fight fire with fire.

JOEY: What?

PACEY: Stay with me Jo….What’s the one thing Dawson doesn’t want to see right now?

JOEY: That’s easy…you or me.

PACEY: More specifically.

JOEY: I have no idea Pacey, and this is getting tedious.

PACEY: Geez…and your suppose to be the smart one….It’s you and me together.

JOEY: Together how?

PACEY: As a couple. Well a pretend couple of course.

JOEY: Pacey…you have officially lost it.

PACEY: Jo, if you think about it, it’s perfect. Dawson will go green.

JOEY: It’s deceitful Pacey. If Dawson found out he would never forgive us.

PACEY: Yep. So are you game?

JOEY: What would we have to do?

PACEY: A little hug here…a little kiss there….nothing major. (Pacey sees Dawson and Jen headed down the hall) The moment of truth is at hand. What’s it gonna be Jo?

JOEY: (puts arms around Pacey) Showtime.

DAWSON SEES JOEY AND PACEY TOGETHER AND BECOMES VISIBLY UPSET. PACEY CONTINUES HUGGING JOEY AFTER THEY HAVE PASSED.

JOEY: You can let go now Pacey…they’re gone.

PACEY: So how’d he look?

JOEY: Not happy. (smirking) This just might work.

CUT TO DAWSON AND PACEY IN BIO CLASS.

PACEY: Maybe we should ask to be assigned different lab partners.

DAWSON: It wouldn’t matter Pacey…As long as your in Capeside your too close.

PACEY: Come on Dawson…is this tortured act really necessary?

DAWSON: Tortured act? Is that what you think this is? Reality check Pacey…there is only one victim here and it’s not you.

PACEY: Dawson….

DAWSON: (interrupting) Save it Pacey…You have nothing to say to me that I need or want to hear.

PACEY: What about Joey? Don’t you want to set things right with her?

DAWSON: Oh I get it now…your afraid I’ll try and get Joey back…Right?

PACEY: Wrong. You’ve got far too much pride to even admit you want her back. I’m secure.

CUT TO CAFETERIA. DAWSON AND JEN ARE AT A TABLE. PACEY AND JOEY WALK IN.

DAWSON: (sees Joey and Pacey) Let’s go Jen.

JEN: Go where? (looks over and sees Joey and Pacey) You want to leave because of them.

DAWSON: Your right. It would be pointless…then they would know that they’re getting to me.

DAWSON LOOKS OVER AT JOEY AND PACEY. PACEY IS KISSING JOEY’S NECK.

JOEY: (giggling) Stop it Pacey, that tickles.

PACEY: (smiles) I’m just trying to establish that we are more than buddies.

JOEY: I’m pretty sure your points been made. (wipes at neck) Gross Pacey…you slobbered on me.

CUT TO DAWSON AND JEN’S TABLE.

DAWSON: (looking at Joey and Pacey) This is ridiculous. Why not just do it with her right here on the cafeteria floor?

JEN: Dawson…you’re over-reacting.

DAWSON: Am I ? How am I supposed to deal with this Jen? They are my best friends.

JEN: Just let it go Dawson.

DAWSON: (standing up) I’m sorry Jen….I can’t.

JEN: Where are you going Dawson?

DAWSON: I’m going to talk to Joey…I have to tell her what this is doing to me.

JEN: Dawson…I don’t think that’s such a good idea.

DAWSON: Probably not…but I can’t continue like this. (walks over to Joey and Pacey) Can I talk to you Joey…in the hall.

JOEY: (to Pacey) Do you mind?

PACEY: No…go ahead.

DAWSON AND JOEY WALK INTO THE HALL.

DAWSON: (turns to Joey) So I see your with Pacey now.

JOEY: Dawson could we please not make this about Pacey?

DAWSON: What do you mean Jo?

JOEY: What I mean is…if you want to talk to me…Jo…your friend…about where we went wrong…I’m all ears. If you want to talk to me about Pacey. Then I have nothing to say.

DAWSON: How did this all get so screwed up Jo? Your my best friend and I can ’t even talk to you anymore.

JOEY: I’m still your friend Dawson…but I made a mistake…one you can’t get past.

DAWSON: I’m trying Jo…I really am.

JOEY: What do you want from me Dawson? Tell me.

DAWSON: Stop the public displays with Pacey. Try and respect my feelings Jo.

JOEY: Like you respected mine? Dawson when did you become such a hypocrite.

DAWSON: You think I’m being a hypocrite?

JOEY: Yes I do. We have one relationship speed bump and you go running straight to Jen. How do you think that made me feel?

DAWSON: I guess like I wanted you to feel…rejected, alone and betrayed.

JOEY: Believe me Dawson I do, so mission accomplished…Happy now?

DAWSON: No, Jo how could you possibly believe any of this makes me happy.

BELL RINGS. JEN AND PACEY WALK OUT OF CAFETERIA.

JEN: Walk me to class Dawson?

DAWSON: (to Jen) Sure. I’ll be right there. (to Joey) Happy is the last thing I am.

JEN AND DAWSON WALK AWAY.

PACEY: (walks over to Joey) How’s it going bright eyes?

JOEY: Horrible. Jen has no intention of ever letting Dawson and I finish a conversation.

PACEY: That’s because she knows that Dawson wants to work things out with you. Come on I’ll walk you to your class.

JOEY: That will make you late for yours.

PACEY: Yep…why break a perfect record.

JOEY LAUGHS.

PACEY GIVES JOEY A KISS ON THE CHEEK. JOEY WALKS INTO CLASS SHE SHARES WITH JEN.

JEN: I see you and Pacey are getting along great.

JOEY: Couldn’t be better.

JEN: Cut the act Jo. I know what the two of you are up to.

JOEY: What are you talking about?

JEN: You and Pacey together…come on, I don’t buy it for a minute. You and Pacey are pretending…so Dawson will be jealous.

JOEY: That’s ridiculous.

JEN: What’s ridiculous is that it’s working. Just a word of warning though…I ’m wise to you Jo. And I plan to do everything in my power to get Dawson’s mind off of you….starting tonight.

JOEY: Tonight?…What’s tonight?

JEN: Let’s just say I plan to fulfill all Dawson’s needs tonight.

CUT TO DAWSON AND PACEY’S BIO CLASS.

PACEY: So how’d your talk with Joey go?

DAWSON: Why are you talking to me Pacey? You do know I’m still mad at you.

PACEY: I know Dawson…but I also know that you really need someone to talk to. So let’s put aside our differences and chat.

DAWSON: You really are something Pacey. Why would I want to talk to you about my problems….when you are the cause of all my problems?

PACEY: See there you go…now were communicating.

DAWSON: Actually Pacey…I do have a question for you.

PACEY: Good. Now we’re cookin.

DAWSON: What are your feelings for Joey?

PACEY: My feelings for Jo? We’ll she’s great Dawson. A good friend…real easy to talk to…not judgmental at all.

DAWSON: Are you in love with her?

PACEY: That’s kind of a complex question.

DAWSON: Just answer it Pacey…I really need to know.

PACEY: Sure I love things about Jo…but no I’m not in love with her. Do you want to know why?

DAWSON: Why?

PACEY: Because falling in love with Joey would be like jumping out of a plane without a parachute.

DAWSON: I don’t follow you.

PACEY: It’s fatal. Joey loves you Dawson. And nobody stands a chance of changing that until you let her go.

DAWSON: I can’t let her go Pacey.

PACEY: Then tell her Dawson…before it’s too late. Not every guy who falls for her is going to be as gracious as me.

DAWSON: What about Jen?

PACEY: What about Jen? Don’t you think she deserves better than a guy in love with someone else?
