STEP ONE:  Identify an Issue:  What makes you angry? What political cause touches your heart? What injustice have you witnessed or experienced?  Activism often begins with strong emotional reactions.
Example Jonathan discovered that the local homeless shelter would no longer allow teenage boys to stay on the premises.  Because of some isolated behavior problems, sons would be sent to temporary foster care or youth shelters instead.  Jonathan remembers his own difficult adolescence and resents this policy that might further disrupt fragile families.  He trusts  that the error can be reversed if he contacts the local social service organizations and the funding agencies.
