British novelist and poet Edward Bulwer-Lytton who
lived from 1803 to 1873.
And is
best-know today for using at the beginning of his
1830 novel -Paul Clifford- the following
lines:
It was a dark and
stormy night and the rain fell in torrents except
at occasional intervals, when it was chequed by a
violent gust of wind which swept up the streets
(for it, is in London that our scene
lies)
Since this date almost
any novelist that starts with the mentioned
paragraphs is inspired in the above mentioned
lines.
