A Tribute to my Ancestors-And a Legacy to my Children

Welcome to my Trickey Lineage Page. I have this wonderful information on my lines from Marty Mazurk, Pam Mortensen, Alan Trickey, and Alan Lindsay. This line was one of my brick walls for many years. Thank you Marty, Pam, and to many others who have contributed. My Trickey lines were established in New York, from there, the line migrated to Canada where they remained for many generations. Many Trickey's are still in Canada. I believe the information below is correct, but if you find any discrepancies or if you would like to add to the lineage, please email me. I hope you find the information helpful to you. Thank you for dropping by. Enjoy.

Descendants of Christopher Trickey

*****************1st Generation*****************

Christopher Trickey was born unknown in Orange Co., New York.  He married ______. Christopher was a Revolutionary Soldier in Wessenfel Hardenburgh's Regt. of the New York Miltia. He was a private.

Christopher was listed in the 1775 Orange Co., New York Assessment Rolls on pg. 614 in District 4. District 4 consisted of parts of Goshen, Chester, E. Chester, Satterly Town, Grey Court, West Chester, Conklingtown, and Fort Hill. Christopher migrated to Canada, where he was listed in the 1800 and 1802 Yonge Twp., Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada (Thank you Marty)..

Question to all:  Could Jeremiah Trickey really be Christopher's son, and not his brother?  Jeremiah was born on 05 February 1758, putting a four year difference between William and Jeremiah, plus the fact that Jeremiah married Jemima Stevens and William married Amey Stevens, known sisters.  Brothers marrying sisters? Jeremiah and William were both listed together in the 1790 and 1800 Orange Co., New York Census records, when everyone else had gone up into Canada.

She leaves to her 2 stepsons some money and George’s ? daughter a bed etc and gives certain land etc to her adopted son Wm Henry Stearns. She leaves a stove to her nephew Ephriam Kyes and mentions 2 nieces in Alexandria NY they being Elizabeth Bowls and Mary Boulton, both married (daughters of her sister Fanny Larue). She left money to Thomas Trickey (unable to determine his relationship to Henry but he is likely the ancestor of Spencer Trickey) and then ½ of her personal goods to her sister Sarah Yates (Ephriam Kyes’ mother) and the other ½ between her sisters Mary Baucus and Fanny Larue. To 4 brothers Lewis, Reuben, Thomas and Nicholas (Mosher-all living on Wolfe Island) 5 shillings. To Dorothy Phenettan 12 pounds, 10 shillings and same amount to friend Joseph Dowsley. To her brother John (he was living with her on the census of 1861-he had a price on his head in the US because he was involved in the sinking of the Caroline above Niagara Falls in 1837) 20 pounds per year for the rest of his life. The rest of the estate was to go equally to Sarah Yates, Fanny Larue, Ephriam, John and Henry Kyes. (sons of Sarah). Fanny signed off her part to her son James Reuben Larue. (Fanny and Peter Larue were living in Breedsville MI at this time).

Information on Affidavit concerning the heirs of Henry Trickey, dated: 06 December 1867, sent by Alan Lindsay (Thank you Alan):

That Henry Trickey never had any child and that Henry Trickey had only 3 brothers and 1 sister, of which 2 of his brothers, William and John, and his sister Hannah having predeceased him, that his 3rd brother Peter had also since died. That his brother William left only one child surviving him-Patience Ferguson now on Larue’s Island in the front of the Township of Escott, widow: that his brother John left 2 sons surviving him, whereas one son James has died and the other son Joseph Trickey is now living in the Township of Darlington in the Co. of Durham, Province of Ontario, blacksmith (his wife was Jane Buck) and that James Trickey left 2 sons John of Escott, cabinetmaker, and William of the Front of Leeds and Lansdowne, yeoman; that Hannah died childless and Peter left surviving him 1 daughter and 2 sons namely James and Thomas both of the Front of Escott, yeomen and that his daughter is now dead leaving no child. Each of the living mentioned above was given a notice if they wanted to object to Ephriam Kyes being executor to do so within 8 days. None responded. This affidavit appears to mention only heirs living in Canada. Several of William’s children were still living in the USA as was Peter’s son Sylvester.

5. Hannah Trickey, born: unknown. She died leaving no heirs.

*****************2nd Generation*****************

William Trickey born ca 1762 in Warwick Furnace, New Jersey (This information is from William's Revolutionary War Pension Thanks Marty). I cannot find any reference to a Warwick Furnace, New Jersey, but did for Chester Co., Pennsylvania. However, there is also a town named Warwick in Orange Co., New York which seems to make more sense since Christopher was listed in Orange County. William married Amey Stevens. Amey was  born ca 1771 in  New York, the daughter of Jonathan Stevens and Jemima Blackman.  William was a Revolutionary Soldier in Hathorn's 4th Regt. of the Orange Co., New York Miltia. William was listed in the 1790 New Cornwall, Orange Co., New York Census records, living next door to Jonathan Stevens, Jr., two doors down from Joseph Stevens, and six doors down from his father in law Jonathan Stevens, Sr. Also listed on that same page was Jeremiah Trickey, and Christopher Trickey, William's father. Census reads: 2 males under 16, 2 males 16 plus, 3 females.  He was then listed in the 1800, Cheesecoches, Orange Co., New York Census records, next door to his uncle Jeremiah, that census states:  2 males under 10, 1 male 10 -16, 1 male 16 - 26, 1 male 26 - 45, 2 females 10 - 16, 2 females 16 - 26. William migrated to Canada where he was listed in the 1804 Yonge Twp., Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada Census records.  He was then listed in the 1805, 1806, 1813, 1819, 1820, 1821, 1823, 1824, 1825, 1827, 1828, and 1830 Lansdowne, Leeds Co., Ontario, Canada Census records (Thank you Marty). Amey must have died after 1828 as she was not listed in the 1833 census records.  Children that are known are:

1.  Patience Trickey, born: Unknown, probably Orange Co., New York. She married _____ Ferguson.

2.  Isaac Trickey, (See 3rd Generation), born: 1791, Orange Co., New York

3Samuel Trickey, born: Unknown.

William tried for many years to obtain his Revolutionary War pension that was put into law in 1789. Marty Mazurk sent me the paperwork regarding his applications.
