INTRODUCTION

The FEd Cup is a tournament comprised of 40 clubs from 40 countries. The tournament follows the same format as the World Cup and, wherever possible, club teams were placed in the same groups as their international counterparts. Since information was not available, World Cup countries like Morocco, Jamaica, Iran and Saudi Arabia were not included in the competition. Note that the squads are based on the 97/98 season. A 98/99 version of the tournament will follow as soon as the European leagues are in full swing and the transfer markets have settled down.

HOW WERE THE CLUBS CHOSEN?

There was no real set method used for the selection of the clubs. There is definately going to be debate about clubs not included but, because of the FEd Cup format, that is unavoidable. Arsenal, for example, was selected over Manchester United because they won the premiership in 1998. So why no Juventus? Juventus wasnt included because Ronaldo plays for Inter Milan. That simple. Some clubs were selected on prestige, some on league victories, some because no other club was available, some because they were the league creators favorites. Look out for FEd Cup add-ons that may be released later in the year. A Juventus add-on, for example, would replace Inter Milan with Juve in the tournament.

ISSUES

  • There may be some commentary glitches. When Motson calls the goalkeeper or a scorer, the original WC98 players name may be called.
  • The FEd Cup will only work with the English installation of the game. Terribly sorry, but it could not be avoided. You can try copying FCDB_ENG.DBI to FCDB_ITA.DBI (Italian) or whatever. I hear it worked with the French version.
  • In non-3Dfx mode, there may be a graphic glitch at the bottom of the players socks. This doesnt seem to be a problem in 3dfx mode.
  • You will notice that all the team skill bars are really low. This does not matter! Its a WC98 screw up and does not reflect the actual team skills.
