The group TOKIO started in 1990 when Matsuoka joined Johnny's.  Then, the band only consists Matsuoka, Shigeru, Yamaguchi, Kokubun and another member called Kojima Hiromu (guitar). Back then, they only performed as dancers in the background. When Nagase joined in 1994 (Hiromu left that year), the band began to play its own music and perform.  TOKIO soon came out with its debut CD called "Love You Only".  TOKIO unlike other Johnny's bands, plays their own music and as more of a "rock band" image and music.  TOKIO now is featured in many magazines, commercials and dramas.  Their TV show is called "Tetsuwan Dash ".  Besides that, TOKIO has also been in many other TV shows, i.e. "Toki-Kin".  TOKIO is also in a group called J-Friends with consists of TOKIO, V6, and Kinki Kids. Other Johnny's groups are V6, Kinki Kids, SMAP and Arashi.
