One thing that strikes you about sharks is how fast they can move when they choose to. As a group, they generally dislike being around people, with some notable exceptions. The best guide is local knowledge. The same species may have strikingly different behavioural characteristics from place to place. Having said that, in general terms sharks have developed a reputation which is largely undeserved and mostly due to Hollywood productions. You are much more likely to be struck by lightning than to be attacked by a shark.
