I actually have to give Mulder some credit in this episode. He could have acted like a jealous baby but he's actually rather mature about the whole thing.
Inviting himself into the case by offering to do the background check. He just can't let an X-File go by without his input. But in his defense he wasn't whiny about it.
Breaking into Kersh's computer: If Kersh were to find out about this it would definitely not bode well for Mulder.
