The truth
about Pops
No matter how much and how hard she tries to deny that
she's the girlfriend
of this and that actor, nobody seems to believe Pops Fernandez that, okay,
there's really nothing more than "friendship" between the guys
romantically
linked to her, including Robin Padilla (would you believe!?!), Troy Montero
(come again, C.G!) and, yes, Aga Muhlach (hi, Rufa Mae!).
During a free-wheeling lunch at Ciudad Fernandina
(Greenhills) the other
day with half a dozen movie writers, Pops once again denied (to death) the
persistent rumors (where there's smoke, it doesn't always mean that there's
fire?).
"Robin used to go out with our barkada which
included his Kuya Rustom,"
said Pops. "That was when Robin was still staying with Rustom in Parañaque.
Troy is also another barkada. Mayroon siyang girlfriend but I'm not saying
who she is."
And Aga?
"I admit that we sometimes play tennis together and sometimes we do eat
out," added Pops, "but it doesn't mean that we're going steady. We
happen
to live near each other in Ayala Alabang and it's inevitable that we bump
into each other often. Pero friends lang talaga kami. I'm loveless and I'm
not in a hurry to look for a new love."
Especially not now that the annulment case between her and estranged
husband Martin Nievera is pending in court, to be decided upon soon.
The lunch presscon was called not so much to discuss Pops' personal life
but to announce the details of her forthcoming concert called Shindig,
slated at the old ULTRA on July 1 (a Saturday), Pops' first major concert
in three years.
Naturally, because it's coming on the heels of Regine Velasquez's SRO
two-day concert R2K at the Araneta Coliseum, Shindig once more raises the
issue of who the "real" Concert Queen is, a rusty issue Pops didn't
really
want to discuss (secure as she is with her stature -- and "title,"
whatever
it is?).
Maybe, for the peace of everybody, all of them
should be given a title
(each carrying the word "concert"), to wit:

* Regine Velasquez -- Concert Diva
* Kuh Ledesma -- Concert Empress
* Viktoria -- Concert Livewire
* Ai-Ai delas Alas -- Concert Comic
