To the Northeast...

Above is the view towards Denver.

On the right, the thin, white line between the branches and those aspens is Pinon Road! The branches are the slash from the ponderosa pine that used to be there before the pine beetles got it. I mourn my lost trees. :(

We have not had a really big snow yet, but we have had our first bad storm of the season. It happened last Saturday when the snow started around Noon and just kept getting worse as the day wore on. It was blowing hard in places up here. The roads were a little icy and somewhat snow-packed. Down the hill (mountain talk for down in Denver), the roads were just wet. On my way down, I nearly had two accidents on Saturday evening. In one really protected place, the road was black ice. That is something I knew from life in the Midwest. I had not seen it here before. By Sunday morning, we were back to our usual sunshine and the snow-pack was melting.

It means one thing... ski season is here! YES! Loveland opened today, so it won't be long before the openings move down and west to the big resorts! Bye for now. I have to go buy my season ticket for Copper Mountain... the REAL skier's mountain!
