Chapter Fourteen

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

What an uneventful rest-of-the-week it had been for me. I pretty much went to classes all day, or worked on papers, or slept. I talked to Taylor on the phone once on Friday, but it was right before I had a class, so I couldn't talk to him for long. It was basically a "I wanted to make sure we're still recording on Sunday and going to dinner and a movie afterwards," kind of call. But now it was Sunday, a day promising fun at Taylor's, fun at Taylor's recording studio, and fun at Taylor's dinner and a movie plans. Needless to say, I was excited. That is why I was pacing back and forth, trying to remember where I'd put my wallet when there was a knock on my door. Taylor was here. Jenn answered the door for me. Funny that she's the person I live with, but I hardly know her. She always goes home for the weekends and must have either a pretty tough schedule or some friends in another dorm room, because I never see her.

"Hey, your friend is here." She called over to me, before hopping onto her bed again. Taylor walked in quietly.

"Hey," He said softly. He walked over to me and gave me a brief kiss on the cheek. "You ready to go?"

"Yeah, but I can't find my wallet." I said with a sigh. For some reason, it wasn't anywhere to be seen. I'd looked everywhere for it.

"Why do you need it?" He asked after a second. I stared at him blankly.

"Aren't we going to dinner and a movie tonight?" I asked, hoping that he hadn't changed his mind.

"Yeah, but I was planning on paying for you." He said obviously.

"Oh Tay, you don't have to pay for me!"

"Yeah I do. If you really want to, you can pay next time." Ahh...next time. My two new favorite words.

"Ok...but that's a promise. You're not going to do the whole, "What promise? I'm paying for you again" kinda thing, are you?" I asked, steadying myself with his shoulder as I put my shoe on.

"No, I'll let you pay for at least half next time." He said, crossing his heart.

"Ok. Let's go. Bye Jenn! I shouldn't be back til late." I called to her.

"Have fun," was the muffled reply. Taylor and I walked out to his car, hand in hand. After forty-five minutes of driving on the huge LA freeway, we got to Taylor's house and ran inside to find Isaac and Zac.

"Hey guys," I said as we entered their room.

"Hey Andrea, you did a really good job on Tuesday."

"Thanks Isaac! It was nice of you to come. You too, Zac."

"Oh, it was fun." Zac said.

"Guys, Andrea and I are going to the studio to record this song. But we're probably just going to get all the instrumentals laid down today. I know I talked to you about this before, but do you think you can come in today to help out?"

"Yeah, we said we would." Isaac offered simply. Zac was going to be playing the drums while Isaac was going to be the producer and pretty much man the machines for us. The four of us left the room after Isaac and Zac got their necessary items and we headed over to the studio in two different cars. Taylor and I planned on going straight to dinner after our work for the day.

When we arrived, Isaac and Zac gave me a tour of the studio while Taylor set some things up for us. It was nice to hang out with Isaac and Zac, I didn't know them very well.

"So tell me a bit about yourself." Isaac asked as he lead the way down a hallway. I racked my brain for something interesting. Nope, nothing was coming.

"Uh...what kind of stuff do you want to know?" I asked.

"Oh, like how long have you been playing your guitar?"

"Since I was thirteen. I got it for Christmas. So I guess thats...five years now. Yeah. For five years."

"That's cool, you're pretty good." Isaac offered.

"Thanks. What about you, how long have you played?"

"I got my first guitar when I was little, but I never played it. I got my first realy guitar when I was about fourteen. And I've been playing ever since." Isaac and I continued our discussion about various musical things when Zac interrupted.

"Ike, show her the rest-room."

"Oh, yeah, come this way." I followed Isaac and Zac into a tiny room with a bed in the corner and a lamp.

"This is just here for when you get really tired and need a break or if you want to take a quick cat-nap." Isaac explained.

"Do you guys ever actually use this place?" I asked, imagining all three of them fighting for the bed.

"Only very rarely. We have a hard time sharing the bed so we usually end up fighting and then going and recording some more," Zac said, as a wide grin spread over his face "but I bet you and Tay could both fit on it together. I'm sure he'd like that." Zac was laughing, and Isaac just shook his head.

"Oh, haha, that was funny Zac. Please, Taylor and I aren't sleeping together or anything like that. He's not even my boyfriend." I defended.

"Yet." Zac returned, still laughing. But he got serious very quickly.

"Wait, you guys aren't together yet?" Isaac asked, confused.

"No, why?"

"Well, last night after your show, my mom was asking how it went, and she was joking around and asked how his girlfriend did, and he said that you were great. Like, he didn't even realize he'd just called you his girflriend. I thought he'd asked you out earlier or something. He usually gets mad when people think he has a girlfriend and he doesn't. I raised my eyebrows, thinking about what Isaac had said. Hm...I'd ask Taylor about it later. But hey, I had no problem being his girlfriend. The three of us headed back into the recording area of the studio to begin our work. It went relatively well. It took a bit longer than I had expected, but the guys seemed to know exactly how long things would take. I guess it comes with experience. Taylor, Zac, and I worked hard on laying down our tracks and Isaac did a great job of putting them on top of each other and editing it. By about seven o'clock, the instrumentals were layed down and they sounded really good.

"So are you guys going to sing it for us or not?" Zac asked when we headed into the production studio to take a listen together.

"Yeah, we've been hearing the music the whole time, but we still have no idea what the song is about or anything." Isaac added.

"Wanna sing it for them?" Taylor asked me.

"Sure!" I pulled out the lyric sheet just in case and set it inbetween Taylor and myself on a desk as Isaac started the music. Taylor and I sang the song all the way through for Isaac and Zac.

"Wow guys, that was really good. I love the message. Can I read the lyrics?" Isaac asked. I handed him the sheet.

"You guys blend really well together. It's kinda weird." Zac supplied.

"Thanks, I think," I said with a laugh. Isaac shut off the machine and stood up.

"Zac, I'm really hungry. Do you wanna go get some dinner or do you just want to go home?" he asked.

"I don't care, what are you guys doing?"

"We're going to dinner and a movie." Taylor explained.

"Oh, nevermind then. I was just gonna see if you guys wanted to come with us, but you already have plans."

"Let's just go home. Mom probably made something really good for dinner," Isaac offered.

"Ok. Bye guys!" Zac called as he and Ike walked out of the room and over to the car. Taylor and I turned to leave, stopping to turn off all the lights and equipment. When we got outside, Taylor took my hand and led me to the car.

"Any place special you want to eat?" He asked.

"Um...yeah, but I don't want to tell you." I said. I was actually kind of embarassed.

"Why? I already told you that I'd pay for you, and I have plenty of money with me."

"No, it's not that, it's just, I have the hugest craving for Taco Bell right now, it's kinda scaring me." Taylor started laughing.

"You want to go to Taco Bell?" He asked incredulously. I started laughing too, realizing how funny that must've sounded to him.

"Do you like Taco Bell?"

"Yeah, it's one of my favorites."

"Then let's go! I won't tell any of my friends that I went to Taco Bell on my first date with a rock start, I promise." I said, laughing. Taylor laughed as he put his car into drive and started off to Taco Bell.
