Taylor walked into his house and listened. He could hear sounds from the kitchen, probably his mother doing some sort of house work, and very faintly, the sounds of a tv show wafted through the living room and into his ears. He slowly shut the door behind him and walked into the kitchen. "Hey mom, whatcha doin'?" he asked, grabbing a soda from the fridge.
"Just making some lunch. How was your class today?" She asked, while she continued to cut the carrots into slices.
"It was...interesting. The teacher wasn't that good, and I already have a project to start working on. But I made a friend, of sorts." He added, pouring his soda into a cup and sitting on the counter.
"That's good to hear, what's his name?"
"Her name is Andrea. She's my partner for the project. She seems really nice, so I'm fine with it."
"Great. Are you going up to your room soon?"
"Yeah, probably gonna take a nap or something. I'm really tired. We were up late last night recording."
"Could you see if Ike and Zac are awake? If they aren't, don't wake them, but if they are would you tell them that I'm making lunch?" She asked.
"Sure. I'll send them down if they're awake. Bye." Taylor hopped off the counter and grabbed his drink, then shuffeled off into his room. One of the good things about staying in LA is that there was a lot more room. He and his brothers still shared a room, but it was a lot more bareable since the room was so large. He walked in quietly just in case Zac and Isaac were still asleep. Zac was still a lump in his bed, and Isaac was looking through his closet for something to wear.
"Hey Ike. Did you just get up?" Taylor asked, making his way to his own bed.
"Yeah, a few minutes ago. Why are you up and dressed already?" Isaac said, stifling a yawn.
"I had my class at UCLA today, remember?"
"Oh yeah, how'd it go?"
"Oh, it was pretty much what you would expect. The teacher seems like a jerk, pretty much came in, gave us alphabetical seats, and assigned us a partner to do a project with in three weeks, and left. So that kinda sucked." Taylor said as he took off his shoes and pulled back the covers.
"Ouch. Do you have a cool partner though? Like did you get to know him or is he some sort of crazy guy?"
"Actually, it was a girl, and she was really cool."
"Uh oh."
"What?"
"Really cool?"
"Yeah, what's the matter with that?"
"Taylor, a girl is only really cool to you if you think she's hot!"
"Ike! What are you saying? That is SO not true! You know I don't only care about that. Gosh, cut me some slack!"
"Well then how is she really cool? I mean, she must've been at least a little hot if you said that."
"No, she really wasn't. She was kinda plain, actually. But that's ok, because I want a good grade on this project and if she was really hot, I'd have a hard time concentrating." Taylor finished with a grin.
"Answer my question, bud. Why was she so cool?"
"I don't know, she didn't know that I was famous, and even when I told her that our band was out here recording a new album, she asked if it was our first one. That was kinda refreshing. And after I told her it was our third, she didn't change, she just felt kinda lame for not knowing who I was. And she's a musician. She writes, plays, and sings-plays the guitar I mean- and sings, and she's playing tonight at Reality Squared. I guess she's cool because she didn't freak out and she is really into her music. I think she'd be a great friend."
"Taylor..." Isaac said thoughtfully.
"Hmm?"
"You just gushed."
"What do you mean 'I just gushed'?"
"I mean what I said! You just gushed for about one minute straight about this girl you met in a class."
"You asked me to tell you why I thought she was cool! I did! That wasn't gushing! There were no little flying sparks, no racing heartbeats, just conversation between two people. Dang!"
"What was she wearing?" Isaac said, hiding the smile that was tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"It was like a bluish green sweater wi-hey! Stop it! I know what you're trying to do! I don't like her! Not at all, not one bit." Taylor said as angrily as possible, despite the smile playing at his lips too.
"Ok, ok. I guess you don't like her. But you might in the future. I mean, do you think you could possible like her in the future?" Isaac asked, growing more serious.
"I dunno, maybe. I mean, I hardly know her. All I know is what I saw in class and at lunch."
"You guys went to lunch together?!"
"No....yes. What's the matter with lunch! I was going to go anyway and she was really busy so I offered to drive her to lunch. There's nothing wrong with that. All we did was talk about the project."
"Wait, you DROVE her? This is so classic."
"Isaac, stop being a jerk. She's my partner on a project, that I happen to think is 'really cool'. Just because I think that doesn't mean I wanna marry her or something! Get a life."
"You know I'm kidding. But seriously now, when are you going to work on the project. Tuesday is the only day we have, besides Sunday."
"Well, she's busy every Tuesday so I figure we'll have to work on Sundays."
"What's she doing that's so important on Tuesdays? You need to have some break time you know." Isaac said, trying not to sound like a mother.
"She plays at Reality Squared every Tuesday night and has two classes. Hey, she asked if we wanted to come. Do you want to go see her tonight?" Taylor asked as Isaac was leaving the room. Isaac just shook his head. "What? She asked!"
"Classic." Isaac muttered under his breath before closing the door. Taylor sighed and clicked off his bedside lamp. He was just about to slip into a world of nothingness when a muffeled sound came from Zac's bed.
"What was her name?" He asked.
"Andrea," Taylor answered, rolling over to face Zac's bed. "Were you awake to whole time?"
"Yeah. It's kinda hard to sleep when there are people talking in the same room."
"Sorry. So what do you think? Do you think Ike was just teasing or do you think he's right?" Taylor asked.
"I think that you having to ask me if Ike is right about you liking a girl or not is kind of an implication that you didn't like her until Ike mentioned it in that way, and that now that he has, you're starting to think about it." Zac said.
"Wow Zac, that was almost deep!"
"I try." Zac said wryly as he pulled himself out of bed and towards the door. He glanced over his shoulder at Taylor, who was laying on his back with his hands behind his head. "Bye Loverboy." He said with a smirk as he shut the door.
