  What are Wishes?
A wish is an expression of one's most deepest desires.  Any one can make a wish, but there is no way to tell what wishes will come true until they do.

Some wishes are granted in a short period of time, between instantaneous and a few days time.  Whereas others may take months or years to come true and sometimes there is a training period so you know what to do once you get your wish and it is not wasted.

There are many ideas, beliefs, superstitions, and traditions about wishing designed to educate one to get their wish.  Certain times, places, animals and objects are believed to be luckier than others.

Even knowing and using all the tools available, there is no guarantee when or if a person can get all they wish for.  Another thing is that sometimes it is better that a particular wish ISN'T granted for a person  for something better is going to come into a person's life in which the wish interferes.  Even so, it is wise to "be careful what you wish for".

  Time, Places and Days
A wish can be made at any time or any place, but some are considered better to wish by then others.

Birthdays:
Many people believe they can make a wish when blowing out their candles on a birthday cake.  They close their eyes, think about what it is they wish for, and then blow out the flames.

Wishing Well:
A wishing well is a great place to make a wish, and  a perfect place to think about one's deepest desires.  You simply hold a coin, make your wish and toss the coin in to the well.  The coin you use is not as important as what matters in your heart.

Shooting Stars:
Making a wish on a shooting star is considered very lucky.  It is believed that these wishes allows the star to carry your wish to the one that will grant it for you.

Fountains:
Wishing fountains are also very lucky places to wish.  You make your wish, too your coin, and watch it float out down.

Days:
The days of the week are divided into lucky days, best for wishes and unlucky days, where it is said that no amount of wishful thinking will help the wishes, dreams, or fantasies of one to come true.  Wednesdays, named for Wöden (AKA Odin, the chief god in Germanic mythology), and Sundays, named for the sun, are considered the luckiest days of the week.  Whereas Thursdays, named for Thonar (God of Sky and Thunder), Fridays (the day for Fria, the goddess of Love), and Saturdays, named from Saturn, the god of agriculture, are considered the unluckiest days.  According to old folklore, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are when the most mischievous spirits come out to play upon the earth and wishes that are made on these days are vulnerable to their wicked, and/or mischievous ways.  The wishes that are granted upon these days are more likely to backfire on the wisher resulting in a case of bad  luck.

Moon Cycles:
Although the cycles of the moon are not always a factor, it is good to be educated on them in order to know whether or not one might choose to make a wish during a particular moon cycle or not.  It is said that the best time to make a wish is during a full moon.  It is during the full moon phase that the highest amount of mystical energies are covering the planet and the mysteries of the moon is the most prevalent.  Maybe this is why people behave so strangely in the full moon cycle.

Blarney Castle:
If you take a trip to Cork in Southern Ireland you may see people lining up to kiss the Blarney Stone at Blarney Castle.  This kissing of the stone is said to grant the gift of good speech.

  Personalities
There are many stories and tales about special types of people that can make wishes come true.   It is wise for a person to wait to see who will grant their wish and not seek out these personalities.  Many of those that follow are quite powerful in the magical arts, and too many requests for petty wishes and malicious intents have left them a bit anti- social and grumpy towards every day folk.  Even if you believe yourself not to be one of those people, unless you fully understand the power of each (and here is only an incredibly BRIEF synopsis) you have no way to know how one may react to your circumstances.

The Sidhe:
For hundreds of years people believed in the Sidhe, of fairies, who use magical powers to change the lives oh human beings.  The Sidhe are quite small in size but they can do great miracles or enormous practical jokes.  They are playful nymphs but also have great moods depending on how they feel toward the wish and the wisher.

Wizards:
Wizards are special people who have the power to make any wish come true.  They have amazingly strong powers.  The most famous wizard was Merlin, who according to legend was part of the court of King Arthur in medieval times.

Angels:
It is a belief in many cultures that we all have guardian angels that watch over us.  Not only do they help us in our lives, they also help grant wishes.

Genies:
The rarest of all the wish granters are the genies.  They often appear in stories as trapped in an oil lamp or bottle.  If you are lucky enough to find a genie and release it, he or she should grant you three wishes.  Be warned however, there are good and bad genies and some will try to trick you into switching places.

  Animals
Different animals are said to have different mystical shamanistic and magical  powers and ability to be lucky for people who know how to tap into these powers correctly.  A list of some animals and their powers can be found in Unicorn Meadows, and throughout Podelan Vital.

  Objects

Particular objects that if found are said to be lucky charms and have the ability to draw forth one's wishes, and dreams.

Four Leaf Clover:
Since these small plants are quite rare you'll need a little luck in finding them but they are said to bring the holder of this charm good fortune.

Wishbones:
Wishbones of a turkey, chicken, or other fowl are said to grant wishes.  It takes a little luck to remove the bone intact from the carcass and should be dried out for a couple of days to harden in a place safe from pets or wild life that would take the charm for their own use.  Two people pull on the V- shaped bone in opposite directions until it snaps.  The person who gets the larger piece gets to make their wish.

Horseshoes:
A horseshoe hanging over a doorway is said to attract good fortune.  However if hung upside down it will drain away all your luck.  To be sure you have yours in the right direction make sure it's "U" is facing up.

  Tips to the Wise

Be careful what you wish for... it may come true!!!
Be as specific as possible with your wishes.
A little positive thinking does much better than luck alone when it comes to making your wishes come true.
Be motivated.  Actions fulfill wishes, waiting wastes them.
Be optimistic.  If you look on the brighter side of life it helps you feel better.
Be fair to yourself.  Never measure or judge yourself by other people's standards.  If your wish does or does not come true, it is not because of who you are.
If you want something done right (or right now) you have to do it yourself.
Always Try.  Even if things don't go well you know you tried your best.
Life is like a roller coaster.  It has it's ups and it's downs and neither of them last forever unless you let it.
Remember Always:  Smiling is Contagious, Frowning is Outrageous, and Love Makes the World Go Round.
Reward yourself.  When you do something well give yourself a pat on the back (and maybe even a gold star!)
