David Witmeyer (1st), Aaron's grandfather, came to America from Germany and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania at a very early day. His son, David (2nd), Aaron's father, was born in this county Jan. 31, 1800, and he combined the trades of watchmaker and carpenter, working principally at the latter trade. His death was on April 7, 1851. His wife was Elizabeth Hummer, and they had a family of eight children: John, who died young, David (3rd), Jacob, Aaron, of this sketch, a watch-maker in Indiana, Elizabeth, the wife of Dr. Shaffer, of Shafferstown, Pricilla, the wife of Jacob Shue, Catherine, the wife of Samuel Plasterer, and Anna, who died at the age of twenty years.
As a young man Aaron followed the Wittles in their move from Penryn, PA 1 first to Ohio where Nancy Wittle and he married, and then to Indiana.
1 Somewhere along the way the name was mispelled and 'h' added. It was apparently easier to leave it that way instead of getting records changed.
2 See map of Unionville (Penryn) for Wittle reference.
