James Dunlop was born about 1600 in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Laird of Dunlop and supporter of the Presbyterian cause... To save his estate from forfeiture as a result of his beliefs, he signed them over to his brother, John of Garnkirk. John subsequently resigned the title as well, returning it to James' son, also James.
He married Margaret Hamilton Campbell.
