Squats were a strong race in Epic/Titan Legions, fielding the best non-Titan super heavies available, coupled with excellent artillery and bikes / gyrocopters for flanking the enemy and durable infantry to hold the line. Unfortunately the disappearance of Squats from the third edition of 40k followed on to Epic 40k, and they were notably absent from the rulebook in the boxed set. An excellent article was later published by Warwick Kinrade in Citadel Journal 21 and then Firepower magazine, however a few items were missing from the army list (most notably Exo-trikes and Guild Biker detachments), and the Overlords and Land Trains left a lot to be desired.

Additions to the list are the aforementioned Exo-trikes and Guild Biker detachments, as well as the Sleipnir APC and the Thor battle tank and its variants. Mole Mortars were given the 'Disrupt' ability (to represent the craters they make!), and Berserkers given the Rampage ability. The Overlord was upgraded to a Super-Heavy vehicle.

The Super-Heavy vehicles were overhauled, and modified for use with the Adeptus Titanicus II rules. Costs were raised to account for their improved weaponry (most notably the Overlord and Land Trains).

Model Sleipnirs by placing a Chimera turret on a normal Rhino, and model Thors by placing a Leman Russ turret on a Land Raider. The Thor variants may optionally be modelled by using the excellent Forgeworld variant turrets.

SPECIAL RULES

Squats have a Strategy rating of 2. However, a Daewar army which includes an Ancestor Lord may add D3 to their Strategy rating.

Tunnellers: Tunnellers deploy exactly like Drop Pods, except the tunneller model replaces the Drop Pod counter and may continue to act with the rest of it's detachment. Like Drop Pods they always count as reserves.

In scenarios which do not allow reserves (such as Planetary Assault and Ambush) tunnellers deploy as normal but are mounted on launch vehicles at no additional cost. The tunneller is launched in the same was as troops dismounting.

Additionally, when above ground a tunneller will create a clear path through any Ruins, Rubble or Woods it moves through.
