Building Engineering and management is concerned with the Engineering and management aspects of building projects.
The course aims at training competent professionals who can deal with any complex building project by coordinating with various specialised consultants from the concept through design, development and construction.
The course enables the students to display their academic abilities to a higher degree level in the sphere of Architecture, Building Engineering and Management and at the same time develop confidence and strature. Beside helping in achieving academic excellence, it also allows the students to develop his/her ability to manage and succeed in the profession.
The thrust of the course is two fold, one dealing with the Project Management aspects and the other concerned with the Building Science and Engineering.
The Project Management section deals with the techniques of Planning, Scheduling and control of building projects; Contract Management; Financial Management; Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour; while the other section deals with the Constructional technology, Structural System and Design Process, Material Science, Building Services, Functional Efficiency of Buildings, Operation Resarch and Computer Applications. Special emphasis is laid on the practical aspects through various case studies incorporated in the Studio Programmes.
From its inception to-date, the Department has contributed more than 200 professionals to the construction industry who are well placed in the public sector as well as private sector enterprises. Students graduating from this department have also joined many academic institutions as faculty members.
