Hair / Hare Family

Helen Hair in Straid, William Hair of Nether Polquhise and James Hair of Hillend of Kirkconnel may be related to the Hair family of Glenwharry in Kirkconnel. Their lands were forfeited following the martyrdom of John Hair at Overcairn, New Cumnock in 1685.

James Hair of Kirkconnel husband of Marion McMillan is almost certainly one of this family. In the grounds of the ruins of St. Connel's kirk, Kirkconnel , close to the boundary with New Cumnock and their ancestral home of Glenwharry can still be found the tombstones with the inscriptions 'Robert Makmillan and Margrat Hair 1708' and 'Patrik Hair and Marioun McMichel 1709'

Mitchell Family

Daniel Mitchell in Waterhead  may be related to Robert Mitchell of Cumnock, martyred at Ingliston near Moniave in 1685.

Gemmell Family

Agnes Gemmell in Lowes and Janet Gemmell in Mains may be related to George Gemmell in Maneight and Patrick Gemmell in the Castle both of who appeared in Charles II proclamation for apprehension in 1685. Indeed Patrick appears as Patrik Gamil of Cumnock Mains, i.e. the castle mains of New Cumnock in an earlier proclamation of 1680 . Janet  Gemmel is in the Mains some 26 years later .

Crichton Family

Jean Crichton and Patrick Crichton of Glenmuckloch, Kirkconnel may be related to Crichton of Craigman who appeared in Charles II proclamation for apprehension in 1685

Glenmuckloch is on the lower slopes of Corsencon hill on the Kirkconnel side of the county boundary. Indeed both names suggest that pig-farming was common on this hill .Corsencon is a corruption of Corswinton , [Gaelic] cor 'rounded-hill' [Old English] swin-tun 'pig-farm' and Glenmuckloch is [Gaelic] gleann 'glen' muchlach 'pig-farm'. This Crichton family must have had a long association with Glenmuckloch, for in OS Maps of 1957 the farm appears as Glenmuckloch Crichtons next to Crichton Burn.

Crawford Family

William Crauford and his wife Margaret Crauford, Jean Crawford of Connel Burn  may be related to Hugh Crawford first minister of New Cumnock and one of Ayrshire's 'true band of Covenanters'. George Crawford of Auchencors is almost certainly related to Hugh Crawford, since it was a branch of this Crawford family that held Auchencross.

Campbell Family

William Campbell in the Mains may be related to the Campbell families of Dalhanna, Lochbrowan and Lochingarroch all of who appear in the Rev. Simpson's 'Traditions of the Covenanters'

Stilly Family

Margaret Stilly in Kirkconnel  may be related to William Stillie of Cumnock Castle who appeared in Charles II proclamation for apprehension in 1685.
