Betty Boop made her first appearance on August 9th, 1930 in a cartoon called "Dizzy Dishes" produced by Max Fleischer. Betty was originally designed by Grim Natwick and modeled after the popular 1920's singer, Helen Kane. Betty Boop was originally a dog but eventually her floppy ears became her trademark hoop earrings. Despite having her overt sexual appeal toned down in the late 1930's, she is more popular today than ever!
