Tendring and the Tendring Hundred

The county of Essex is divided into districts, known as Hundreds ( from Saxon days ). The village of Tendring sits at the center of the Tendring Hundred. In government documents the district is listed. For example, a birth which took place in Little Bentley, Essex would be shown in civil records as having been in Tendring. Parish records and census forms, in this example, would show Little Bentley as the place of birth.
