Contemporary to John Finer (1)'s marriage to Hannah Bull on 8 September 1689 at St. James are children born to Daniel and Bether, and Richard married to Abigail Grigs 1684. John Finers, archdeacon of Sudbury, 1497

A real mystery this fellow. The root of the name may well be the same.

Later Finers

Of the descendants of John and Hannah Finer, I'd like to find more information on;

The children of John Finer (4) and Sarah Hill

The children are all mentioned in his will of 1794, but their christenings do not appear in either the Tendring or Little Bentley parish records. It seems likely that the family was living elsewhere at the time of the children's birth.

James Finer (b. 1760, Tendring - d.?)

John (4)'s son James is listed in the will and appears, with brother, William, in the The Journal of the Furniture History Society, Vol. IX by Karin M Watson, 1973, Guildhall Library PAM 12524 as;

"The Worshipful Company of Upholders ( Upholsterers ) of the City of London

Guild List ca. 1800 showing date of entry into guild ( R = bought into Guild )

Kent's Directory for the Year 1794. shows them at the Leadenhall St. address and their brother Thomas at Hatton Gardens.

Maria Elizabeth Finer born 1790 St. Andrew Undershaft,

Elizabeth Finer ( nee Dangerfield ) died ca. 1791 in London, parish unknown

James Finer married to Ann Duthoit, 1793 in Holborn, London

Isabella Finer born 30 April 1794 St. Andrew Undershaft, Leadenhall St.

Clarissa Finer born 1796 in Pentonville, Islington, London, parish unknown

Frederick Finer born 17 July 1799 in Clerkenwell, London

James Finer died before 1837, parish unknown

Ann Finer (nee Duthoit ) died before 1837, parish unknown

Joseph Finer (2) ( b. 1824, Little Bentley, Essex ), twin of George Finer (2)

James Finer (3) ( b. 1825, Little Bentley, Essex )

Frederick Finer (3) ( b. 1834, Little Bentley, Essex )

These are four of John (6)'s 14 children. One, Elizabeth (3) died at three. Arthur's tree shows dates of birth and for some of their children. Susanna 1821 shows in the Great Bentley records, Maria ( b. 1823 ) is missing, and the remainder of the children appear in the parish records of Little Bentley. John (8), the eldest, was born out of wedlock with his birth recorded as John Finer b. 1818 in Essex, and baptized John Pinner Church, son of Susanna bap 3 Nov 1818 at Ipswich St. Clements. John and Susannah married 3 April 1820 in St. Clement, Ipswich, Suffolk. I am fairly confident that Pinner is a transcription error for FINER.

I have nothing on Joseph or James. A few GRO index records may apply. The marriage of a James Finer in St. George East in 1855 is more likely James Finer (4) b.1831 in Bishops Gate, London. A possibility may be the death of a James Finer at Mile End in 1858. There are no unaccounted-for Josephs in the GRO indexes, nor any mention of either individual in the Tendring records. Emigrated?, died before 1837 somewhere other than Tendring?

Frederick (3) was married to Ann Fabian, 1867 in Lambeth, London. No other information.

Wilfred Ernest Finer (2) born 1879 in Great Clacton, Essex

Son of Henry Finer (2). His only brother, Horace James Finer ( b.1883 ) was killed in action in 1917.

John Finer ( Camberwell )

The GRO indexes show a John Finer married in 1854 at Camberwell, Not sure about this one.

Emily Gwen Finer, married at Wanganui, Wellington, N.Z. 21 January 1885

Emily recently appeared on the LDS site. A real mystery.
