Added Tuesday, January 26, 1999 ... Happy Australia Day!!!
The 56th Annual Golden Globe Awards
Well, there were no X-Files winners... Best TV Drama went to The Practice, Best Actress was Keri Russell (Felicity) and Best Actor was Dylan McDermott (The Practice).
TV Week
There's a small photo of Gillian Anderson on the cover of the January 30 issue of TV Week and a two-page story inside titled Happy To Be Single.
Entertainment Tonight
This morning's episode of ET on Channell 9 (WIN) featured the Golden Globes. There was a brief clip of David Duchovny and his wife Tea Leoni being asked about her pregnancy. You can catch the repeat later tonight.

The X-Files Movie: Video Release
This could be bad news. In the Blockbuster Member's Magazine # 28 (February 1999), a copy of which I picked up this morning, there's a review of The X-Files Movie video under Hot New Releases, with the release date confirmed as February 17. There's also a great X-Files competition where you just ring a phone number and answer the question "In which city does the spectacular explosion of an office building occur?" (easy, huh?), leaving you name, phone number and membership details. (See the magazine for full details and if you're not a Blockbuster member, join soon - the competition runs from February 17 to March 17). First prize is a Toshiba Notebook valued at $3,000 and a copy of the video; there are 10 runner-up prize packs consisting of an autographed photo of Gillian Anderson plus a movie soundtrack CD, Making of the X-Files Movie book and the set of five season 1 videos; plus 30 consolation prizes of the movie soundtrack CD.
Sounds great! Where's the bad news, you're asking? Well, the first prize video is valued at $110, which is the price video stores pay for their movies. Reading between the lines, it seems the video will be for rental only on February 17 and not for sale until a later date.
I asked the store manager who said she wasn't sure but seeing as it was the movie and not TV episodes, it probably wouldn't be available to buy.
You can read the review on my Australian Media: Movie page.
Action Figures
In other X-Files Movie related news, the action figures released as a tie-in to the movie release last year have been heavily discounted in my local (and presumably nationwide) K Mart and Big W stores.
You can get further information on my Multimedia page.
The 56th Annual Golden Globe Awards
Don't forget to watch the 56th Annual Golden Globe Awards on channel Ten (Capital) tonight at 8.30pm.
1999 Grammy Awards
Neither of the X-Files Movie albums, the soundtrack or the score, were nominated for Grammies but The Dust Brothers were nominated for their version of the theme song on the soundtrack in the category Best Pop Instrumental Performance. They're up against Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Kenny G, The Pat Metheny Group and The Brian Setzer Orchestra. The awards will be handed out on Wednesday, February 24th. The Grammies are usually screened in Australia, but I'm not sure what channel.

David Duchovny in Australian TV ad for Lift
On my Australian media page, last week I posted an article that appeared in The Daily Telegraph on January 14, 1999 where there was a rumour that David Duchovny was being approached to do an ad for Lift soft drink.
Three of four days later the ad is being shown on channels Nine (WIN) and Ten (Capital). Fast work or what? Just proves that my disclaimer on the media page is correct ... most of the X-Files information printed in Australian newspapers is either out-of-date or just plain inaccurate!

Season Six
Yee haa! Just under three weeks to go until season six starts screening in Australia. No need to tell you to mark Wednesday February 10, 1999 with a great big X on you calendars
The X-Files 1999 Wall Calendar
Speaking of calendars, my sister Dianne was in Sydney this week and bought me a copy of the calendar from HMV which I got off her this afternoon, thanks very much. Wow, what a bargain.
The 56th Annual Golden Globe Awards
The 56th Annual Golden Globe Awards screen on Channel Ten (Capital) on Monday January 25 at 8.30pm. Television nominees include The X-Files up against Law and Order, Felicity, The Practice and ER. Among the nominated performers are Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny who are up against Kim Delaney (NYPD Blue), Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel), Julianna Margulies (ER), Keri Russell (Felicity) and Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue), Anthony Edwards (ER), Dylan McDermott (The Practice) and Lance Henriksen (from Chris Carter's other show, Millennium).
First annual TV Guide Awards
Continuing with awards shows, this item was spotted in the US TV Guide: (yeah, I know it's got nothing to do with Australia.)
NYPD Blue leads the shows and CBS sits atop the networks nominated for the first annual TV Guide Awards, the winners of which will be announced February 1.
ABC's NYPD Blue garnered four nominations, including Favorite Drama, Favorite Actress in a Drama (Kim Delaney) and two spots for Favorite Actor in a Drama (Dennis Franz, Jimmy Smits). Fox's The X-Files came in second among the shows with three nominations: Favorite Drama, Favorite Actress in a Drama (Gillian Anderson) and Favorite Actor in a Drama (David Duchovny).
David Duchovny and David Letterman
The episode of The Late Show on Tuesday night was the one that originally screened just before the X-Files movie premiered in the States last June ... where David wears Tea's hat!
Movieline
Further to the info below, the December/January issue of Movieline also includes a review of the X-Files Movie (one of their rents of the month) and a half-page story on Tony Shalhoub, who was in the season two X-Files episode "Soft Light". (No mention of that though.)
Gillian Anderson on NBC Today
I used to enjoy watching the Today Show a few years ago with Bryant Gumble, Katie Couric and Willard Scott but unfortunately my local station Prime (which broadcasts Channel 7 in the country) no longer airs the show. That means I won't be able to watch the Friday morning (US time) Gillian Anderson interview which screens in Australia tomorrow night (or early Saturday morning actually).

David Duchovny and David Letterman
I'm not sure if this is true, but I've heard that Monday's (US time) episode of The Late Show with David Letterman is a repeat and will feature an interview with David Duchovny. The episode should therefore screen on Tuesday night (tomorrow) Australian time on Channel 9 (WIN).

The Mighty
The Australian release date for The Mighty, the Sharon Stone movie featuring Gillian Anderson, is Thursday March 11, 1999. (Hey, that's my birthday! Ah, getting to see a Gillian Anderson movie ... what a present!) Date courtesy of Medellia's Realm. Gillian appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman last Tuesday night (Australian time) promoting her most recent movie Playing By Heart and discussing the Y2K problem among other things.
Playing God
David Duchovny's movie Playing God wasn't released in the cinema in Australia, after it's poor performance in the USA. It will be released in Australia on video though, on 22 February, 1999. I saw the trailer recently and it didn't look that bad -- Timothy Hutton playing a bad guy? That I've gotta see -- so I'm looking forward to hiring the movie from my local Blockbuster.
The X-Files Movie
You can fight the future on February 17, 1999 when the X-Files movie is released on video. They say "available to rent" but I assume you'll also be able to buy a copy.

Season Six
Everyone should know by now that season six starts screening in Australia on Wednesday February 10, 1999!
X-Files Season One videos
Two more tapes will be released in February 1999. I'm not sure of the exact date. Anyone know? The tapes are:
Darkness Falls and The Erlenmeyer Flask
and
Beyond The Sea and EBE
Movieline
The December/January issue of Movieline was released in Australia during the week. It features Gillian Anderson on the cover and a great interview.
The X-Files 1999 Desk Diary
The (very nice) Diary is on sale in Angus and Robertson's (in Bathurst at least) for just $4.95! What a bargain.
The X-Files 1999 Wall Calendar
Medellia's Realm has information on the 1999 Wall Calendars which are on sale in HMV stores nationwide for just $4.95. (I hope there are some left the next time I get the chance to go to Sydney)
The X-Files Movie soundtrack
The CD's are on sale in Sanity stores for $9.95 and have also been reduced in my local Big W and K Mart stores. Does anybody know if Mark Snow's soundtrack from the movie was released in Australia? Thanks to Medellia who informed me that Mark Snow's soundtrack CD was indeed released here but it's very very hard to find.
If you know of any other Australian-related X-Files news you can let me know by sending me an e-mail. It will be much appreciated and I'll give you credit for the info. Thanks a bunch!
