We are not alone, and no one knows it better than Lt. Col. Marcus Aurelius Belt, former astronaut and now Mission Director for NASA. On his last space walk, he encountered a terrifying, ghostly presence, one that has haunted him ever since. When sabotage strands a shuttle in outer space with an oxygen leak, Mulder and Scully are asked to discover the saboteur in time to save the crew. But their efforts are hampered by a mysterious force that seems bent on re-creating the events of Col. Belt's earlier mission -- and keeping humans out of space permanently. Col. Belt collapses, leaving Mulder and Scully to convince the ground crew that their rescue efforts may endanger the shuttle. Only a bold, chancy move can bring the crew home alive -- if Mulder can convince Mission Control to change its approach program.
My Rating: 2/10
In many people's opinions this is the pits -- and I have to agree. Each season seems to throw up a real shocker and for season 1, despite all the great episodes, there were a few clunkers and this one is the worst. It seems hollow and from reports I've read they blew the budget on trying to get some special effects of the shuttle and mission control etc and there was nothing left. That doesn't excuse the biggest problem which is Chris Carter's script which is pretty ordinary.
This episode is ranked as the worst on the GEOS X-Files Episode Guide.

Notable Quotable:
Mulder: "You have to admit, that was exciting. Mission control and all."
Scully: "Yeah. Ranks right up there with getting a pony and learning to braid my own hair."

Scully: "Didn't you want to get his autograph?"
