Returning to the scene of their first investigation seven years ago, Mulder and Scully encounter a UFO that may spell the end of their partnership.
My Rating: 9/10

For anyone who managed to avoid the spoilers, Scully's announcement at the end of the episode would have been a total shock. It's also further proof that a show should be enjoyed without knowing what's going on and why this site will never spill the beans on any plot points

Chris Carter really brings out the big guns for the final episode of the season and what could have been the final episode of the series - Cancer Man, Krycek, Marita, The Bounty Hunter, plus Billy Miles, Teresa Hoese, Detective Miles and Deputy Hoese from the "Pilot" episode! Amazing stuff.

Where Have I Seen That Face Before?
Darin Cooper (Deputy Ray Hoese) has appeared in "The Arrival", "The Prophet's Game" and "The Setting Son" as well as an "Ally McBeal" episode.

Andy Umberger (Agent Short) has appeared in two episodes of "Buffy" plus the TV movies "Tempting Fate" and "Passion".

Judd Trichter (Richie Szalay) has been in "The Bogus Witch Project" and "Big" and has appeared in episodes of "Law And Order", "Murphy Brown" "ER" and "Chicago Hope".

For information on Zachary Ansley (Billy Miles), Leon Russom (Detective Miles) and Sarah Koskoff (Teresa Hoese) see the "Pilot" episode.

Eddie Kaye Thomas (Gary Cory) has been in the movies "American Pie", "American Pie 2", "Freddy Got Fingered", "Sheer Bliss", "Illtown", "Mr Jealousy" and "The Rage: Carrie 2". He's also appeared in 3 "Law And Order" episodes.

Trivia and Research:
TOPEX/Poseidon is a project that utilizes a satellite, equipped with an altimeter, to measure the surface of the global ocean. This helps to understand how the oceans affect the atmosphere and world climate. Its purpose is to make precise and accurate measurements of sea level worldwide, determine the global ocean circulation and its change through time, track ocean tides and the relationship between the ocean circulation and climate changes, and describe the nature of ocean dynamic. It also computes how the heat, water mass, nutrients, and salt are transported in the oceans and it analyzes the interaction between currents and waves. The project is a joint mission of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the French space agency, Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES).

ERS-2 is one of the European Remote Sensing Satellites. Remote sensing is the collection of data about something by means of an instrument not in contact with it. Most typically this refers to Earth-directed sensors riding on aircraft and satellites. The orbits of these satellites are different from those of the communication satellites at which we point television dishes. Communication satellites are geosynchronous, meaning they orbit at the same speed the Earth rotates, so that each satellite remains above a certain spot on the equator. Contrast this to remote sensing satellites that orbit the Earth almost perpendicular to the equator (i.e. almost from pole to pole). Because the Earth is spinning below it, the satellite can eventually take pictures of the entire surface of the planet. This is called a sun-synchronous orbit. The group scene in Skinner's office around the conference table is patterned after Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" (1498). In the painting, the striking contrast in attitudes of the 12 disciples is counterposed to Christ. Da Vinci portrayed that moment of highest tension as related in the New Testament, "One of you which eateth with me will betray me." The Apostles are human beings who do not understand what is about to occur, and appear agitated. Christ, conscious of his divine mission, sits in lonely, transfigured serenity. Only one other being shares the secret knowledge: the traitor Judas, who is both part of and yet excluded from the movement of his companions; in this isolation he becomes the second lonely figure -- the guilty one -- of the company.

Much of the shoot took place in the Big Bear Mountain area of California in order to replicate the look of Oregon in the pilot episode.
