Fox Press Release
My Rating: 7/10
This was an OK episode but it could have been much more. What looked like being a possibly important mythology link episode (the black oil) didn't really offer up much information. The action sequences were excellent - the effects on The X-Files are always bigger and better than just about any other show on TV - such as the fire and the oil rig explosion but overall it was nothing out of the ordinary. The fact that Mulder is finally fired from the FBI after so many prior run-ins with officialdom seems little more than the plot device to let the character leave the show with David Duchovny's departure.
