On April 19, 2003, Jenny Nieva sang "God Bless America" for the
double header, home opener for the 2001 major league soccer champs, the San Jose Earthquakes in front of over 17,000 people.
" My dream has always been to sing in front of thousands of people.
On stage is the place where I truly feel relaxed, like I belong up there. I have been singing with Mrs. Mao since I
was 18 years old, never did I imagine that I would one day be singing in front of over 17.000 people. I was the only
one out on the field, with the color guard behind me and I sang acapella. And the strange thing about it was, I wasn't
even nervous. I remember the very first time I sang in front of people. It was for a student recital for Mrs.
Mao, in front of a couple of hundred people. I was shaking and felt like I was going to throw up, and now
I look back and I laugh. Mrs. Mao has taught me so much in singing; not only how to, but to have confidence and courage
in what I do. I owe her so much and would like to thank her for her help and guidance." -- Jenny Nieva
