There were a whole bunch of us who have been dreaming of a trip like this since we were young grommets surfing Newport. A couple of guys, Ty, Brett & Lyle, had been here before, but never together with this many old-school friends. Some of us had opportunities to go, but didn't and we've regretted for all the years since.
So here's Brandon. He's 13 years old, he's here with his dad, who seems like his best friend, and he's getting barreled at Cloudbreak on days when you know all his friends would be pissing themselves in the boat. He ripped Restaurants - grabbin' his rail to pull in on 200 yard tube rides. He took his beatings on the reef and paddled right back out in the lineup. At the end of the day, he'd go have a coconut shell full of Kava. The little man never missed out on anything - sorry Mrs. Davis. All cultures have their rights of passage, well, Brandon had his this week. Talk about becoming a man! Nice job Brandon, you totally earned your tattoos.

Assuming you're not getting hammered by a cyclone like Fritz tried a few years ago, there are plenty of things to do other than surf. We took part in more than a few "extra-curriculars" besides surfing, drinking and eating . . . but not very often.
