Hayle Mail Oct. 15, 1914

Conditions improved slightly last week in America, but they are still far from being anything near normal. Copper is still close to 15 cents, making the mining camps very quiet at the present time. Butte, Montana, and different camps throughout Arizona are working five days a week, and the men have all been cut ten per cent on their wages. I again wish to inform friends and patrons, especially first trippers to find out the conditions of the city or town in America they might intend to go to before leaving Cornwall. As the winter is coming on they might find themselves up against it before the spring arrives.

I have been told that by informing my friends and patrons through the columns of the "Cornishman" and its chain of newspapers of the bad conditions in America I am hurting my own business, but I know that they will appreciate it to the extent of knowing that I mean to be fair to them by recommending the Cornish Arms Hotel to their friends and relatives who are not acquainted  with me or my hotel.

Travel has been very light owing principally to this most terrible and greatest war in the history of the world.
