Welcome to Marystown, NL.  I was born and raised here and although I may have said 'I couldn't wait to get out of here' (I think everybody says that about their hometown from time to time)..there is always something that beckons me home.

To me, nothing beats the Newfoundland hospitality and the clean air of the bay.

I have just recently found the website for Marystown as developed by the Marystown Town Council. Click HERE to take a look. I think they did a great job and hopefully there will be more to come.

Marystown was originally named Mortier Bay, the name is still so for the bay itself. A Roman Catholic Priest named it Marystown and a statue of the Virgin Mary was erected on the hill that is part of the valley that the town nestles in.

Marystown is located on the Burin Peninsula or what the locals call it "The Boot" because of its shape. The Burin Peninsula is on the southern part of the island and with the bay being virtually ice free, it's the perfect location for two of the town's main employment facilities; The Fishery Products International Plant and Peter Kiewit Sons Co. Ltd. Marystown Shipyard.

With a population of approx. 7 000 and such a large pool of skilled workers available, it can one of the most economically improved communities in Newfoundland. There is a potential that Marystown has that will definitely give it the attention it deserves and business have already moved in with more that are looking to move into the town.
