Black
Population Characteristics and Age Structure
A couple of general observations:
Thirty-seven percent of the Black population fall into the dependent group. The dependent group consists of individuals under the age of 18, and 65 year olds and up.
This population has a sex ratio of 90.74 males per 100 females.
It is projected that the Black population will become the second slowest growing group in the US over the next thirty years. The White population will lag the most, while the Asian and Pacific Islander population will grow the fastest. (Campbell, p7:1996)
