Mufflers
![]() The
mufflers on my Injection were actually sports car mufflers and were as ugly
as sin. They were also nearly completely free flowing and that was resulting
in a very lean mixture at high revs.
One
advantage of the injection equipment was that between the Airflow and Boost
sensors, it was able to compensate for a lot of the changes in flow caused
by the mufflers and actually ran quite well.
The noise
and bad looks finally got to me and I built some new mufflers from stainless
steel that would look and perform as near to original as I could.
![]() The alloy
cap at far left I had cast and machined from an original part from another
Injection that lives near by. The outer skins I had made by a local sheet
metal shop because I needed a rolling machine to get a good finish. The disk
baffles were profile cut and then all MIG welded together.
![]() Here you
can see the layout inside the muffler....
![]() I then
made brackets using the ones I found welded to the old car mufflers as a
pattern. I had discovered at the last minute they were actually the original
ones from the factory mufflers it had when new.
![]() I then
returned them to the sheet metal shop and they completed all the external
welds with a TIG welder and polished them. I then painted the end caps and
fitted them to the mufflers on the bike.
More to
come.......
