TRANQUILIZER
TRANQUILIZER are
drugs used in the treating nervous disorders or calm psychotics
patients. They are not habit-forming but when they taken
in large number will produce deep unconciousness, a drop
in blood pressure and finally respiration stop ending
in death. While the margin of safety associated with these
drugs is considerable, overdose can occur, and continuous
use can to dependence.
KIND
OF TRANQUILIZERS
Meprobamate - A minor
tranquilizer used for the relief of anxiety, tension and
mascular spasms. It does not produced sleep in small dosage,
but an overdose can result in physical and psycholigica
dependencel.
Diazepam - also known
as "valium". It is the most commonly used tranquilizer
which has a slow onset but log duration of action. Prolonged
use will result in independence, both physical and psychological

- It causes physical weakness
and sleepness
- Induce mental and physical
dullness
- It calms the nerves and relieves
tension and anxiety
- Overdose can lead to "comma",
respiratory failure and death.
ABUSE
OF TRANQUILIZER
Tranquilizers are taken
by users through oral intake, since most tranquilizers
are in tablet form or encased in soluble capsule.
Injectables can be obtained
in vial form and administered by the user with use of
hypodermic needles.
FIRST
AID TREATMENT
- Arouse the victim with the
use of a cold wet towel
- Maintain an open airway to
provide enough air for the patient
- Take the victim to the hospital
or drug rehabilitation clinic
