Lair of the Unidragon, Page Two

A few miles out from the city, the plains surrounding the left road start drying up, until eventually the road is going through a desert. And then the road itself fades out too, as the sands claim it.
This doesn't matter to you. You have a good sense of direction. You just wish you knew how BIG this desert was...

You have now been trudging through the desert for a week, and, not being used to this heat, you drank the last of your water yesterday. You pant and gulp in the stale air, air that feels as if it came from a blacksmith's furnace. Peeling your damp, shaggy brown hair off your right eye, you scan the horizon for an oasis.
You don't find anything--wait! There IS a pool of water! Just a tiny one, but still...
Gratefully you force your aching body the last few hundred yards to the puddle, bend over, then hesitate. The water is real, all right--after all, if you were going to IMAGINE water you're sure you'd come up with something more appetizing than this! It has a strange, sticky scum on top, and it smells funny.
But you HAVE to have some kind of liquid, and soon. No telling how much longer before you find any more.
