| A beautiful mysterious
14 year old girl. She has a strange way to express her feelings. She often
feels empty, without emotion. She is very quiet and ignorant about her
emotions. This builds up a mystifying aura around her. No one seems to
understand her except Shinji's father. She is chosen as the "1st
Children" (the first qualifier for the EVA pilot). She is designated
to pilot EVA-00. |
History

Rei has no past, and unknown family
origin. She is probably one of the clone created by Ikari
Gendou and his EVA team for the project. Rei was cloned from
the gene of Ikari Yui (Shinji's mother,
Gendou's wife). |

| This might explain her
close relationship with Gendou. She trust no one but him. She was treated
like his daughter. Gendou loves her more than Shinji. Perhaps because of
her same resemblence to his late wife. |

"Rei" was the name Yui and Gendou
have agreed for their child, should they were given a daughter. In
fact, they were blessed with a son so they named him "Shinji". She was
named "Rei" because Gendou has been longing for a daughter all this time.
After his wife's death, he couldn't stand the torture and finally he "created"
Rei and brought her up as if she was his own daughter. Unfortunately she
is just a clone of his late wife, Yui. Rei grown up trusting only Gendou
and no one else. Their (Rei's and Gendou's) relationship confuses Shinji...
It seems that his father give so much attention to her and Eva-01 rather
than to him... and he can't figure it out why his father left him. |
