Garbage Pail Kids Trading Card 'Scavenger Hunt' Coming to San Diego Comic Con

Topps is pleased to be hosting a trading card 'scavenger hunt' produced exclusively in conjunction with the upcoming the San Diego Comic Con 2022. The promotion is centered around nine newly created GPK 'puzzle' cards. One specific card will be available at each of the nine GPK licensing partner booths. Featuring Garbage Pail Kids artwork by artist Chris Meeks, when combined, all nine cards reveal a complete scene — certain to delight convention goers and Garbage Pail Kids fans of all ages.

In addition to Meeks' dazzling sketch card contributions to a variety of GPK and other Topps card releases, his work was recently seen in Camp Daze, the third release in the Garbage Pail Kids middle-school book series by best-selling author R. L. Stine. Meeks is also part of the creative team behind an upcoming GPK comic book series from Dynamite Publishing (soon to be officially announced)[au.note: unofficially announced at the Licensing Expo 2022 show that took place on May 24-26, 2022].

A limited number of 'puzzle' cards will be available each day of Comic Con, including Preview Night. A total of 500 cards per participating GPK partner will be distributed - at no cost -- while supplies last. "San Diego Comic Con is all about having fun and celebrating fan passion", says Ira Friedman, head of Global Licensing for Topps. "We hope that our 'scavenger hunt' provides fans with an opportunity to meet up and connect with other members of the Garbage Pail Kids community and share their common interest and enthusiasm," says Friedman.

Per SDCC blog on June 24, 2022, by Erin Tapken, also added: "Are you ready for something just a little bit gross? Your head just might explode like and Adam-Bomb when you read this!
For 2022 Topps is offering San Diego Comic-Con attendees a chance to collect nine newly created Garbage Pail Kids “Puzzle” trading cards from nine different booths around the exhibit hall. ... Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a Jobe Globe to find these puzzle pieces, we’ve got them right here for you: [LIST]. You won’t want to dilly-dally like a Lazy Louie though. A limited number of “puzzle” cards will be available each day of Comic-Con, including Preview Night, and only a total of 500 cards per participating GPK partner will be distributed and only while supplies last. These cards are free of charge, something sure to make all the Cheap Chucks happy. Now go get those cards, ya Slobby Robbie!"

The San Diego Comic Con (aka Comic-Con International) show took place on Thursday, July 21 & 22 and ran through Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the San Diego Convention Center. The 9-card promotional puzzle, provided by Topps, was available from nine different GPK license holders attending the weekend-long event. Each licensee received 500 promo cards to hand out to attendees to help promote the GPK brand, especially since Topps was not set up at the show. The nine different puzzle pieces created one large image created by artists Chris Meeks, hot off of attending the Philly Non-Sport show in May. The artwork is clean on the front, with no GPK header or acronym, and contains information on the back about the license holder.

On July 11, 2022, Topps shared the image with the SDCC Blog and GPK website authors. Per SDCC Blog, the write-up stated: "Happy Garbage Day all you Nerdy Nicoles and Geeky Garys! The gross kids at Topps have exclusively revealed to us the full image that you’ll be able to make if you participate in the Topps x Garbage Pail Kids Trading Card Hunt at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
You’ll need to visit nine different booth inside the exhibit hall to collect all pieces of this puzzle. A limited number of puzzle cards will be available each day of Comic-Con, including Preview Night, and only a total of 500 cards per participating GPK partner will be distributed and only while supplies last, so don’t be a Lazy Louie, go get those cards! Now let’s take a look at this exclusive image, created by GPK artist Chris Meeks."

NOTE: The giveaway program will begin on Preview Night (Wed. July 20) and will continue throughout Sunday the 24th, while limited supplies last. All 9 participating partners have been provided with suggested giveaway allotments, on a daily basis, in order to hopefully satisfy interest/demand throughout all days of the show.

Ad posted to social media on October 6, 2022. Cosplayer Sam Gras was also in attendance, dressed up as the ADAM Bomb characters on Friday and Saturday, with photo opportunities at the various Garbage Pail Kids license-holder booths participating in the scavenager hunt. Unfortunately, no exclusive ADAM Bomb card was handed out. Per Topps announcement on October 3, 2022, " Adam Bomb Costume Character Appearances– Cosplay performer and costume builder, Sam ‘Kablam’ Gras, will appear as the iconic Adam Bomb Friday and Saturday of NYCC. Adam will be stationed at the Topps booth for photo opportunities and fan interaction. He will also be on the show floor visiting the stands of GPK licensee partners. Appearance times to be finalized – stop by the Topps booth (# 2819) for latest details. For NYCC, Adam will be posing for fans in a new costume design, but don’t get too close to his detonator button – this sometimes bad boy has an unpredictable and explosive noggin!"

Ad posted to social media on October 7, 2022. Before or after the autograph card giveaways on Friday, Saturday, and Sunay, with Simko, Camera (Wacky-releated material), and Gross, respectively, a LIVE sketch session occured. The Topps booth had two, completely unannounced, exclusive cards for the New York Comic Con, taken from the recent 'book worms' retail/hobby release. Both images were created by artists Brent Engsrom, where the character card for Book Of The TED was handed out on Thursday, and the character card ADAM Book was handed out on Saturday, both free with proof of following Topps on social media. NOTE: Unlike the retail/hobby card [ADAM Book], the NYCC promo card has the name in smaller case and the word in larger case [Adam BOOK].

On Friday, September 23, 2022, artist David Gross took to social media and stated, "If you are heading to NYC Comic Con on Sunday Oct 9th I will have an exclusive Garbage Pail Kids card available at the Topps booth to sign." The card image stems from the 2022 GPK We Hate the 80s online expansion set, week #6, that sold from August 25 to September 01 with the character holding a sign that states, "THE SET IS OVER! GO HOME!", a parody of Ferris Bueller's quote, "You're still here? It's over. Go home. Go." The movie takes place in Chicago.

Topps released a GPK x Oh, the Horrorible! expansion set at the NYC convention and a slightly different configuration online for four days only from October 6 to October 9, 2022 that cost $19.99 per ten-card set, or $179.99 for ten bulk sets (online). Both releases contained ten cards with a checklist and 9-card puzzle (1a-5b) backsides, but the convention set also came with an exclusive character, two extra cards with a black NYCC backside (6a/b), whereas the onlines set came with a sepia card variant.

On Thursday, September 29, 2022, artist David Gross took to social media again to state, "Garbage Pail Kids Oh, The Horrorible returns to NYC Comic Con next week! PHILLY NON-SPORT — SPRING CARD SHOW

The Topps Company/Fanatics had an exclusive pair of Prime Slime Trashy TV Promo Cards (100ea?) printed through and for the Philly Non-Sports Card show that took place the weekend of May 20 and 2
at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks (Hall E) in Oaks, PA.

Per social media the first half of May, artist David Gross mentioned, "If you are going to the [Philly Show] I'll be at my booth with an exclusive official [GPK] card available!" and "Adam F. Goldberg's The Muppets Mayhem is now streaming on Disney+! Check it out and get the [GPK] promo cards (A/B Names) I painted which are available at the [Philly Show]!" Note: the Philly show has been printing and paying for these cards to be printed, roughly 100 per promo card, for several years, after first getting permission. More than 60% of these particular promocards were miscut, so Gross paid to have them reprinted, so roughly 200 may eventually exist on the secondary market.

FANATICS LEADERSHIP EVENT
TOPPS LIMITED PRODUCT

On September 21, 2023, Fanatics CEO, Michael Rubin, took to Instagram and posted several leadership event pics including a Garbage Pail Kids card, stating, "Incredible two days with members of our leadership team across all @fanatics' businesses! Was great to get everyone in one room and dive into all the ways we need to keep improving and innovating for our fans. Excited for our future and where we’re headed. A huge thank you to our team and thought provoking speakers. ps swipe to the last picture - the collectibles team abusing me like everybody else!" The last picture being a caricature of himself created by artist David Gross. Per Fanatics, Inc., Rubin is a "serial entrepeneur, philanthropist, and social justice advocate, is the founder and executive chairman of Fanatics."

David Gross took to social media the same day to share the Michael 'Rambunctious RUBIN' parody image (and information), sporting GPK bling, stating, "Fanatics had a two day leadership event and myself, Brent Engstrom and Joe Simko did three Garbage Pail Kids for the event. I did the Michael Rubin card featuring him, Tom Brady, Robert Kraft, Kevin Hart and Travis Scott partying it up at the White Party." The concept pictured to the right was rejected, which showcases three popular GPK characters, surrounding the charismatic CEO, that probably doesn't bring in as much money to the company as the four replacements on the final card version, pictured to the left.

Artist Joe Simko worked on the 'Grumpy GLENN' character, and stated, "Here's my original painting, and the final card version they altered in post. Brent's card is on the right. My guy was Fanatics CFO Glenn Schiffman", the Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. Within the original image, the 'SCB' chart was removed in post production at Topps, and the 'EBITDA-' sign, which is short for "earnings before interest, taxes, depreciations and amortization"—one of the most widely used measures of a company's financial health and ability to generate cash flow—was moved and changed to 'FCF-SBC', which stands for "Free Cash Flow - Stock Based Compensation".

Artist Brent Engstrom completed the artwork for the 'On-Time ORLANDO' character card, poking fun at Orlando Ashford, the Chief People Officer (CPO) of Fanatics, who manages global human resources for the company and directly oversees the HR team within Fanatics Holdings, per their website. Brent mentioned that "[Topps] wanted watches all up his arms so I put them on his legs too, just to push the gag a little." Several watch band colors and faces were changed in post-production at Topps, as well as making the skin tone a little darker. After the event, the CEO asked if these changes could be implemented on the final artwork so that they could be gifted to the individuals.

On October 7, 2023, artist Neil Camera took to social media to post an image he painted of Rubin in 2022, stating, "Here's a fun little GPK portrait I was asked to paint for Michael Rubin back in 2022 when Fanatics first acquired Topps." The image contains a plethora of GPK characters in the background with 'MIKE the King' spinning a 76ers basketball and holding a Devils hockey stick. The 'CERTIFIED GROSS' header is a tagline that was taken from the GPK license logo. As of October 20, 2022, "Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin completes divestment in company that owns 76ers, Devils, sources say. Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin has sold his 10 percent stake in Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, completing a divestment as a limited partner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, sources told ESPN on Thursday." NOTE: this image was requested by 'Uncle Louie' of GPK Nation (Leo Challenge Coins) in hopes of getting a card printed, but was not requested by Topps nor part of any event.

NEW YORK COMIC CON
EXTENDED WEEKEND EVENT — OCTOBER 12–15

COMBINED POSTER ONLINE STORE ADVERT

Per social media channels on August 17, the New York Comic Con announced the 2023 GPK posters, stating, "From the trash and into the Javits, our highly anticipated reveal of our 2023 Garbage Pail Kids posters is here! We’re bringing you TWO exclusive prints, signed by artist Joe Simko, only available at the NYCC Show Store October 12-15. Buy your tickets if you want to get your hands on these: link in bio. Want more GPK collectibles? Stay tuned for more reveals." The show promoter, ReedPop, has had a lot of success with these posters and t-shirts for the NYCC event.

Per 'A New Era for New York Comic Con' online article by Heidi MacDonald on Sept 15, 2023:
"NYCC organizer ReedPop, which also owns C2E2, Emerald City Comic Con, PAX, and Star Wars Celebrations, had major personnel changes in the past year. ReedPop president Lance Fensterman, who led the Reed Exhibitions division since its creation in 2009, departed to start a line of sports-focused events for Fanatics, the sports merchandise and collectibles juggernaut, that aims to become the “comic con for sports.” In addition, Mike Armstrong, v-p and former showrunner of NYCC, left ReedPop to join Fensterman’s new team. ReedPop is now led by Mike Kisken and Simon Maxwell, while Kristina Rogers continues as v-p of the ReedPop global comics portfolio, overseeing C2E2, ECCC, and others. Fensterman will be missed, Rogers says, but she notes that “he left us with the tools we need.”"

Most intriguing among the new players in the space is Fensterman’s project at Fanatics. “It’s about taking the sports fans and fans of collectibles, trading cards, and memorabilia and building an environment where they get to really revel and wallow in the stuff they love,” Fensterman explains.

This new fan-focused project is similar to what Fensterman did at ReedPop, but with a different audience. While Fanatics plans to launch next year with two events, show content is still in development. “I don’t see us moving into the territory of NYCC yet,” he says, “but could other non-sports collectibles be a part of something we build? Absolutely, but not at the beginning. We need to cater to a very specific community.”

Fanatics also owns the well-known trading card company Topps and has licenses for Star Wars and Strangers Things, and Topps itself owns some IP, like the classic Garbage Pail Kids. “We’ll see what people want,” Fensterman adds.

On September 25, 2023, artist JOE Simko took to the socials and stated, "Here is one half of the official [New York Comic Con] GPK screenprint I designed. Side 'A'. Available next month at the show. 18" x 24" Signed and numbered. Vibrant Fluorescent Blacklight color with Metallic shine. Stay tuned for side 'B'" and on October 11, 2023 for part two, stating, "Music vid. Look for these blacklight GPK x NYCC 2023 prints at New York Comic Con Available at the NYCC official show store. Starting tomorrow! Left side and right side print. 600 each. Signed and numbered."

On September 30, 2023, artist JOE Simko took to social media and stated, "I'll be signing GPK Pop-Up books during [New York Comic Con on] Saturday, Oct. 14th [at the Insight Editions] booth # 3418 2:00 - 2:30pm" and on October 13, 2023, reiterating, "Tomorrow at New York Comic Con I'll be signing copies of the GPK Pop-up book. Plus Free Pop-up book promo cards. Info in post." NOTE: the promo card were unfortunately not available, and JOE had his parter June Gonzales created the signing ad for the show and had Topps share, where they stated, "SAVE THE DATE: If you are heading to New York Comic Con this weekend, be sure to catch artist Joe Simko at the Insight Edition Booth signing copies of the all-new GPK Pop-Up that he wrote & illustrated!!"

*

Although unannounced, and unlike the daily cards (and special Oh, the Horror-ible set) like last year, Topps had a New York themed ten-card set that could be obtained by winning two different daily, clear-cellophane, packs (containing five cards each) via completing several puzzles & obstacles, and entering the codes into a vending machine and lockers system which revealed what prize you won (either a Topps tote bag, GPK card pack, Star Wars card pack, GPK t-shirt, etcetera); the Topps booth employees were sporting GPK t-shirts and cosplayer Sam Gras was onsite for Saturday & Sunday. On October 16, 2023, Topps took to social media and stated, "What a difference a year makes! The KING of GPK cosplay Sam Gras traded in his Adam Bomb costume and debuted a new Roy Bot suit this weekend at NYCC! How do you think he did?!" Unfortunately, no ROY Bot promo cards were being handed out.

PHILLY NON-SPORT — FALL CARD SHOW

The Topps Company/Fanatics approved an exclusive PNS promo card for attendees attending the Saturday night dinner event. The cards were printed (100 print run?) through and for the Philly Non-Sports Card show that took place the weekend of October 14 and 15, 2023,
at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks (Hall E) in Oaks, PA.

Per online article on September 14, 2023, GPK News stated, "The next Philly Non-Sports card show is ready to go in October. [...] From a GPK perspective, collectors will recognize one of the guest artists as veteran sketch artist David Acevedo. [...] GPK sketch artist Rickey Kipfer will also be setup at the show as a vendor. Attendees of the show will have the chance to pickup a Topps approved promo card, Philly Sneezesteak, created by Perter Zies and Neil Camera. The traditional Saturday dinner will feature guest speaker Gary Gerani. [...] Attendees to the dinner will receive a Topps approved Halloween GPK card done by David Acevedo." NOTE: the reverse image, tribute artwork of OS5 LUKE Puke by JOHN Pound, has the OS4 Barfin' BART namesake.

GROSS CARD CON — TOY CONVENTION
TOPPS LICENSED PRODUCT FOR PURCHASE

On October 28, 2023, GPK & Wacky Warehouse took to social media with a preliminary artists list for the 2024 GCC show, which would take place for the first time in the spring, on March 16th & 17th, 2024, and stated "Stay tuned for more details, Gross Card Con 2024 ARTIST LINEUP!!" GPK&WW purchased the rights to the show from the previous showrunners and the price included sketch shirts from a previous show... on December 14, 2023, it was announced "They’re back! Limited quantities available at Gross Card Con 2024! Grab a blank OG 2019 Gross Card Con Sketch Shirt and have your favorite artist to do a sketch! Cost of sketch varies per artist!" The following day, on December 15, 2023, a new updated list was shared to potential showgoers, stating "Here’s a present everyone will love! New to the Gross Card Con 2024 artist lineup, is James Warhola!" The new 'poster' also added GPK News. The event took place at the World Market Center and the Downtown Grand Hotel hosted attendees.

Since there was no GCC 2023 show, it was nice to see that the Get A Grip Skateboards company would be back in attendance for 2024 after being present at the 2022 show. It was also nice to see some new Topps GPK merchandise announced and that their GPK license was still going strong. A plethora of great non-licensed GPK product was also available from the artists and sketch artists, and another excellent GCC card set.

On March 6, 2024, GPK & Wacky Warehouse took to their social media channels to showcase GCC merch that will be available at the show, stating "A sneak peek of what will be available at our table for Gross Card Con!
Are you coming to GCC 2024?! (March 16th & 17th)", and silently announcing the exclusive pair of official Topps GPK cards created and painted by artist Smokin' JOE McWilliams, 1a Card CUTTER and 1b Snotty SPADES.

*

Artist DAVID Gross had began posting images of painted GPK characters to social media that he planned to sell as prints at the Gross Card Card, previously unreleased concepts known as his 'REJECTED' kids. Gross also started to post sneak peeks at the official Topps card pairs he would also have for sale at his table, characters taken from the 2022 bookworms GPK set that had remained unreleased. For the 'REJECTED' kids, Gross had mentioned that "the 'bad water' and 'Day of the Dead' were [unpicked for] worries of cultural appropriation... Katy Perry was considered too sexual... and [the Michael Jackson] one, I'm not sure, maybe worried about the Jackson lawyers or too mean? I don't really know."

The week leading up to the show, Gross posted "Las Vegas Gross Card Con is this Saturday! Here's not one, not two, but three NEW GPK promo card pairs I'll have at my booth. Remember 'Gets Graphic', the cancelled subset from Bookworms? I talked Topps into putting my three pulled cards out as official GPK! First card pair is Rocketing ROBERT/Detached DAVE from The Rocketeer. More sneak previews on the way throughout the week! I will have them available after the show as well for anyone unable to make it!", and "The #2 card pairs are Sandy SANDY/Deathly DELILAH from The Sandman." Although the third card has not been posted, as of yet, the other known 'Gets Graphic' by Gross was the Dark Knight parody character seen on the sell sheet in 2022.

*

So I rarily cover non-Topps product, but some infamous 'underground cardz' (I coined due to their similarity to 'underground comix' product), known as Sapphire Cracker Cards (SCC), were handed out at the Gross card Con (GCC). The items aren't bootlegged and given graciously out for free, which is refreshing. Series 1 and Series 2 packs were often shipped, quited mysteriosly, to collectors, and I'm sure we'll see/hear the same for Series 3. The creator of the 'cardz' was inspired by the very popular GPK Sapphire cards, crack+ing open boxes, and rip+ping open packs, but the sets also include the curious & chaotic Mini 'rip cards', first seen within baseball releases [each Mini is embedded inside a standard-sized card which must be ripped open, therefore destroying the regular-sized card]. More information can be located on their website, and fake/parody store.

NOTE: TL - PRINTED SCC; TR - COLOR SKETCH BACKSIDE; B - VEGAS CHARACTERS IN RELEASE

I included this non-GPK report because of the nature of the cards, the level of dedication put into the highly detailed releases, and because artist Tom Bunk was asked to create six color sketch cards used for the release. Bunk had corresponded with me on February 16, 2024, mentioning the mystery cards, "Attached, six Las Vegas-themed cards I made for [...], they are printing and selling at the Gross Card Con. OS3 card [character]s, and giving my (and some others) originals out, something like that. Anyway, top secret." Perhaps this shouldn't have been shared with me, but it only added to the experience at the show and to the story; trying to find out who was 'selling' them, finally locating them within a Sapphire Crackers pack, and sharing them with Dov [of DKE Toys] and others.

The Topps Company/Fanatics approved two exclusive PNS promo cards for attendees attending the 80th show. The cards were printed by Topps and Roxanne Toser Enterprises, Inc., for the Philly Non-Sports Card show that took place the weekend of May 18 and 19, 2024,

Gross had a tie-in promo card set [GO!P1a + GO!P1b] printed for the PNS show the weekend of May 18 + 19 and stated on social media, "Garbage Pail Kids cards for Game Over (Bonus Level) I'll have available at the 80th Philly Non-Sports Card Show this Saturday and Sunday AND available after the show for any that are left." I have placed this information within the Kids at Play page, as well as the 2024 Online releases page. The online sets are a spin-off from the 'GAME OVER!' 24-card subset from the Kids at Play retail/hobby set that was released earlier in 2024.

Per PNS Facebook updated on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, "We're starting to get promo cards in for the upcoming 80th Philly Non-Sports Card Show taking place May 18 & 19 in Hall B of the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center & Fairgrounds. Be sure to keep an eye on the carousel on our website at phillynon-sportscardshow.com for updates. As we lead up to the show, more cards will be added there."

NOTE: FINAL ARTWORK & GPK DINNER METAL CARD (MOCK UP) : ART BY NEIL CAMERA; SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER GIVE-AWAY

Per email blast on Friday, April 26, 2024, the showrunners for the Philly Non-Sport card show mentioned, "We'll be updating the carousel section of our website with more cards leading up to the show. Recently announced cards include Spellcasters IV Guardians of Light P1 from Perna Studios and Scifi Cards' take on GPK (with special Saturday and Sunday versions). And don't forget, those in attendance on Sunday at 1:00 PM will receive Metal Versions of the "A" and "B" GPK promo cards with art by Neil Camera." Per email blast on May 10, 2024, a section of the one-week countdown accouncement stated, "We will be giving away metal card versions of the two GPK promos cards to all who are in attendance at 1 PM on Sunday. These are sure to be in high demand!"

Artist David Gross also had a set of promo cards for a set of characters 'rejected' from the We Hate the 70s mini sets, and taken from the 2023 Online releases. Although greenlit by the lawyers, it was later rejected (again).

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON — SDCC

The 2024 San Diego Comic Con International took place on July 25 through July 28 at the San Diego Convention Center. With the decrease in new GPK licenses and renewals at Topps/Fanatics, the Garbage Pail Kids brand had a much smaller presence at the convention show for the year 2024.

Per the SDCC Unofficial Blog! on July 3, 2024, by blogger Kerry Dixon, "Atomic Toybox is always coming up with some explosively fun designs for San Diego Comic-Con — from their annual Garbage Pail Kids items to vinyl figures and beyond. Stop by Booth #3921 to pick up this year’s delightfully gross exclusive products for San Diego Comic-Con 2024." Artist Joe Simko took to social media to state, "GPK bkacklight screenprints I designed, available [at the] Atomic Toybox booth 3921 during San Diego ComicvCon July 25th-28th. Only 100 prints per design. Signed and numbered." Below are the two poster colour proofs by Enemy Ink.

As with previous poster releases, Atomic Toybox had Enemy Ink, out of Orlando Florida, screen print the convention posters. The Comic CONNER character made his debut at the SDCC back in 2014, ten years ago! Make sure to check out the year 2014 section and the IDW Page for more information on this character. Per the Enemy Ink website, "Enemy Ink began July 2001, with a single station screen printing press purchased on Ebay with the goal to provide band merchandise for ‘Spitvalves’, an Orlando Ska-Punk band fronted and managed by Enemy owners Charlie Bender and Brad Palkevich. Soon the word got out and Enemy found itself printing kick ass merchandise for local and national underground artists. Rapidly Enemy grew in size and scope, from a small shop with a single manual press to a successful DIY ethos driven print shop running multiple automatic presses capable of producing thousands of printed pieces per hour."

GARBAGE PAIL KIDS SDCC 1-PIECE EXCLUSIVE
RELEASE PERIOD : JULY 25—28, 2024; ITEM NUMBER #51617

Similar to the FYE exclusive Greenlight Collectibles GPK vehicle and trading card, GL will have another vehicle exclusive to the 2024 San Diego Comic Con with an original character and trading card created by GPK artist BRENT Engstrom. The production print run is cleverly 2,024 pieces for the year 2024. NOTE: ~1944 green vehicles were produced and 80 gray/grey RAW vehicles. NOTE: chase vehicles going forward will be RAW and not contain green wheels/parts.

ENGSTROM FINAL ARTWORK : CREATED MAR+APR 2024

Details include, "It is a 1:64 1969 Ford Bronco with a metal chassis, rubber tires and an opening hood. It is limited to 2,024 pieces and will be for sale for $20. Greenlight Collectibles will be booth #834. A GPK artist, Brent Engstrom, created the exclusive Super Snotty specifically for Greenlight Collectibles to use at SDCC."
On Monday, July 16, 2024, GL took to social media to share a SDCC ad with collectors, initially only stating, "Get Ready for San Diego Comic-Con!" and then following up with, "Greenlight Collectibles is thrilled to announce our exclusive SDCC release: the 1:64 1969 Ford Bronco, inspired by the iconic Garbage Pail Kids! Limited to just 2,024 pieces and priced at $20, this collectible is a must-have for fans and collectors alike. The design reflects the vibrant colors of the "Super Snotty" Garbage Pail Kid, brilliantly brought to life by artist Brent Engstrom (@brentaengstrom on IG). Join us at Booth #834 to get your hands on this exclusive model and meet the team. See you at Comic-Con!"

A variant vehicle does exist for the SDCC exclusive, a 'RAW' chase diecast. Roughly 4% of the production which equals 80 vehicles; the remaining 96% of production, and roughly 1944 vehicles, would therfore be the regular green version. Per Hobbytalk.com, "a RAW chase diecast refers to a special type of collectible diecast car that is produced in very limited quantities. These cars are often unpainted or have a raw metal finish, making them stand out from regular releases. They are highly sought after by collectors due to their rarity and unique appearance" Per Greenlight booth, extra vehicles would be sold after the show on eBay, but grey version had sold out.

The image is a bit deceiving, size-wise, but GL handed out several different supersized 'GL Exclusive' employee cards at the 2024 SDCC between the dates of July 25 through July 28, a different 4x6 (4.5" x 6.25") jumbo card per day to collect. They handed out Unaware AARON on July 25, Aggravated ANGELA on July 26, Traffic Lady KATIE on July 27, and Tangled TIM on July 28. These cards apparently had a 100-card print run. Unverified, a second card was handed out on Sunday for Clutch CLINT that had a 40-card print run. All cards have a plain GL cardback, unlock their regular-sized brethren. All artwork by GPK artist JOE Simko, except #2 (ANGELA) by GPK artist BRENT Engstrom.

Per GPK News, via GL, "We did 200 cards of each and we had 5 designs. All of the cards are GreenLight Exclusives designs based on GreenLight employees. These designs are completed by an official GPK artist for our "Garbage Pail Kids Series" line. Every GPK series that we make has 1 GPK sticker based on a Greenlight employee so the 5 cards that came out are from our "Garbage Pail Kid Series" 1-5. Unfortunately, we do not have any more cards to give out!"

NOTE: Remaining regular green version SDCC exclusive vehicle posted to eBay on August 09, 2024, on sale for $20 + ~$6 S&H. The grey/gray RAW version SOLD OUT at the show.

FANATICS FEST — INAUGURAL FALL CARD SHOW
NOTE: GPK T-SHIRTS CANCELLED; RELEASED AT NYCC

Per website: "What is FFNYC? Fanatics Fest NYC is a once-in-a-lifetime fan event that will bring together fans and collectors across all sports to celebrate their passions under one roof at New York City’s Javits Center from August 16 – 18, 2024." Per press release on April 11, 2024: "Fanatics Events Announces Inaugural Fanatics Fest NYC: A Three-Day Summer Festival Supersizing Sports, Culture and Collector Fandom. Today, Fanatics Events, the live and special event division of digital sports platform Fanatics, announced details for its first flagship event, Fanatics Fest NYC. Sitting at the nexus of sports fandom, culture and collecting, Fanatics Fest NYC will bring together fans across all sports to celebrate their passions under one roof at New York City’s Javits Center from Aug. 16 – 18. The multi-day event will be laced with interactive features, multiple stages and theaters, exclusive merchandise, products drops, major announcements, live podcasts and more to celebrate and elevate modern sports fandom in all its forms. " Etcetera.

On August 01, 2024, Topps sketch-card artist, Mike Stephens, took to social media to announce, "I’m excited to finally announce my participation in Fanatics Fest 24, where you can meet a handful of us Topps artists and some of the biggest names in Sports/Entertainment! I mean, where else can you get a custom GPK piece and also see Tom Brady, Mike Tyson and Hulk Hogan?" The following day, on August 02, 2024, Topps sketch-card artist, Jasmine Contois, also announced her attendance, stating, "Fanatics Fest, Saturday August 17th. I will be signing original artwork which is available for purchase. I will also have FREE art activities in my booth for the kids. Hope to meet you at the Javits Center.
Thank you to everyone in the GPK Community; without you this wouldn’t be possible."

Also on August 01, 2024, Topps artist, David Gross, took to social media and mentioned, "I’ll be a guest Topps Artist at Fanatics Fest in two weeks! I’ll have Garbage Pail Kids artwork, prints and new cards along with GPK X MLB 3 merchandise!" Gross also posted on August 14, 2024, stating, "I'll be at Fanatics Fest in NYC Friday through Saturday! I'll have these four new sports parody cards premiering there. Honus Wagnerd - Tobacco size card, Babe Uncouth - 1933 square card, Oscar Shamble - 1976 traded card, Blow Namath - 1965 'tall boy'. Cards are $20 each and come signed or unsigned. Postage is $5 and allcome with top loaders." Etcetera (PM information).

Near the end of June, beginning of July, GPK artists Brent Engstrom, David Gross, and Chris Meeks were asked to create a sports-inspired GPK t-shirt design to be sold at Fanatics Fest, however, the project was axed, even after the final artwork was created. This would have been official GPK product. Per artist Dave Gross on August 15, 2024, "We did do the shirts and yes they were cancelled. [...]
I did not make prints of the shirt art but may in the future. It’s ADAM sitting on top of the Javits Center." These were eventually released at the New York Comic Con in October 2024.

On October 17, 2024, artist CHRIS Meeks took to Facebook to share his t-shirt artwork, stating, "Here's my design for one of the offiical NYCC Garbage Pail Kids shirts that's on sale at the Topps booth! David Gross and Brent Engstrom also have some pretty cool shirts there. Jump on a plane and go get one!" On December 1, 2024, artist DAVID Gross took to Facebook to post a sale for the final artwork used for the Fanatics Fest GPK t-shirt design, stating, "The original 2024 Garbage Pail Kids painting for the 2024 NYC Comic Con ADAM Bomb T-shirt. Depicts ADAM on top of the Javitz Center with lots of sports equipment and sports cards blowing through his head. I had to alter it to GPK cards for the final image but did those in Photoshop, so this is the original design." ($2,000)

NEW YORK COMIC CON
EXTENDED WEEKEND EVENT — OCTOBER 16–20

No GPK-related material posted to the New York Comic Con merch store in 2024. The first year, for several years, that artist JOE Simko did not produce a GPK-inspired poster combo for the convention, via ReedPop, and t-shirt design. At one point, the idea of a Craniacs poster was considered, considering the release of Simko's own IP (intellectual property).

The ADAM Bomb figure should make it's premiere at next month's New York Comic Con. On September 25, 2024, Polyphony posted an image on their social media pages of twenty-two yellow and red neckties, stating, "See you in NYC?"; a visible hint of the upcoming GPK ADAM Bomb figure. September 29, 2024, Polyphony posted a GPK packaging sneak peek image to social media, simply stating, "Who’s Adam Bomb[?]" and on October 09, 2024, Polyphony posted a OS1 WRAPPER card image, simply stating, "Say What[?]"
So far, nothing exclusive to NYCC has been posted. NOTE: The box packaging for NYCC is apparently exclusive. Additional information on this product can be located on the GPK 2024 License page.

An ADAM Bomb 'turntable weight' was also set out at the Tenacious Toys table (
NYCC Booth 1771), where Polyphony had set up camp, as a 'Display Only' item; time will tell if eventually released.
Per Polyphony, "The turntable weight will be coming very soon, this is the only prototype right now at the show. Final pricing not set yet, but I can assure you it will have typical polyphony great quality."
Pics per GPK News... note the weight is sitting next to the 15" Maestro ADAM Bomb figure, as a size comparison. The 'SIDE P' may equal 'P' for 'prototype', and the 'INSERT HERE', for the center spindle placement on the turntable, is a nice shout out to the card's 'PEEL HERE' sticker.

The Topps Factory also had five GPK enamel pins to collect, one per day, along with three GPK t-shirt designs sold at different times throughout the convention days. The three t-shirt designs were actually created for the Fanatics Fest in August 2024 by artists DAVID Gross, BRENT Engstrom, and CHRIS Meeks, as displayed on the Topps Factory wall, but the images remained unreleased until now; David's artwork altered from the original design (see Fanatics Fest section above). The artwork still works considering both events took place within the Javits Center and NYC, but Engstrom's design was more sports-inspired, due to the Fanatics Fest event.

I had to alter it to GPK cards for the final image but did those in Photoshop, so this is the original design."

PHILLY NON-SPORT — FALL/AUTUMN CARD SHOW

The Topps Company/Fanatics approved an exclusive PNS promo card for attendees attending the Fall show. The cards were printed (100 card print run each?) through and for the Philly Non-Sports Card show that took place the weekend of October 26 and 27, 2024,
at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks (Hall E) in Oaks, PA. The guests artwork at the show included Smokin' JOE McWilliams, Jason Brower, Lily Mercado & Vincent Rappa. Artist NEIL Camera provided the GPK (Adams Family TV series inspired) and Wacky Packages images. Usually 100 cards are printed, per character.

Card 1a ADAM's Family was handed out to showgoers attending the show on Saturady, and Card 1b Cousin ICK was handed out at the Saturday night dinner, with 'DINNER' marked on the backside. As with previous shows, metal card version of the GPK card image were handed out to Sunday showgoers, but for this show, only card 1a was produced. Along with the corrected version of card 1b Cousin ICK, a misprinted version was also handed out, as showrunner Harris Toser explains, "The printer did a poor job with that card and miscut it. I had them reprint it. At the dinner, I had some fun and while I did the presentations, I showed people the miscut cards and asked them if they thought I should throw them away—of course I knew what they'd say. So I handed out a miscut card to everyone as well."

DESIGNERCON
EXTENDED WEEKEND EVENT — NOVEMBER 15–17

The DesignerCon, not to be confused with 'DesignCon', is often seen shortened as 'DCon', not to be confused with the product 'd-CON' (rodent control)
. Per website, "DesignerCon is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys, customs, plush, designer apparel and so much more with urban, underground and pop art! We are a celebration of all aspects from the world of design." The event took place at the Expo, within the World Market Center, in Las Vegas, during November 2024.

SKET ONE SCULPTURE: FOR DISPLAY ONLY

Although no GPK artists were in attendance, at least once Garbage Pail Kids license holder was; Atomic Toybox, ran by Mike Polis, had urban graffiti artist Sket One create an official Topps GPK poster for the event. Per website, "Michael Polis - ceo /creator /exec producer. Michael Polis is a senior level strategist and producer specializing in brands, intellectual property, and consumer products." Per artist website, "Sket One is a Las Vegas based visual artist [& desinger] with roots in traditional urban culture [& American graffiti] with an old-school urban background." The limited edition poster of 50 was also for sale on the Atomic Nerd website, the shop for Atomic Toybox. More information can be found on the GPK Licenses 2024 page.
